I have installed IP POE Camera's on my property.
One camera is at the front driveway gate that is 180 feet away. It is mounted on a block wall. The POE is ran with Cat5e AWG24,8 Conductor, Black Flooded Core, Solid BC Copper Direct Burial CMXF cable, underground along the driveway to side of the house into the Kitchen pantry room to the NVR IP port.
Other three camera's are around the house.
Later I have read here and elsewhere that I need a Home Entrance Protection device on the cable before it enters the house.
The cables entry to pantry is about 10 feet from the house electrical closet and meter.
So the ground copper wire from protection device would connect to the ground bus bar there correct?
Which protection device would I need? Where to buy?
And I guess I would need one for each camera cable coming in pantry?
Thank You
Bill

You're going to need something like this, and to check you local building codes as to what is acceptable grounding.

Usually there will be a length and gauge restriction/recommendation on the grounding cable, and you may need to drive a grounding rod near where the cables enter the home and ground directly to earth. (But it sounds like you are close to where your mains enter and where you house ground is located)

I wouldn't ground to the ground bus inside your panel, though, I don't have a good reason for this. Again, try to find you local building code and go from there.

The NEC 800 code as far as I can tell just says it needs to be a listed primary protector device. Do I need the Entrance Protector to be UL 497? Looks like when I found the UL497 with 110 blocks, modules and enclosure for 4 cable system is $500 ish. Which if I read correctly would be 16 pairs for 4 cat5e cables. Which would need 1-25 pair block and 16-30v modules? O am I way off here?

CubanlB - Thank you for the reply. That says it's indoor protector. I thought I needed it to be outside before entering the house? I also don't see where it says UL 497 or not?
