Home network internet blocking?

Call me a bad parent, but I am having difficulties controlling my teenager's internet useage. We share an SBC DSL account with dynamic IP address over a Netgear RT314 router, and would like to set time of day limits for internet / network access.

Suggestions?

Thanks for the tip, but I am not looking to restrict computer useage, only internet access, and to certain times of the day.

Pull the plug. Or get a higher-end router (this is an exotic feature, you may need a PC running OpenBSD or Linux to do it).

Any software that runs on your teen's PC will eventually be circumvented.

The Netgear Web Safe functions on the RP614 look interesting, although it seems that any restrictions apply to the entire network, although one "trusted" IP address can be exempt. If this is the case, then it will not satisfy my needs.

The machines I am interested in blocking connect to the router through a hub. One option would be to simply install some type of timer on the hub power source - comments? Is there another way to accomplish this?

set up a domain with win2k and restrict your daughters account to onlybe able to logon at certain times of the day. going with a doamin will give you far more control that just that youll be able to specify what she can & cant do down a finite level with Group Policy. Combine that with squid and squid-guard and you have total control. Alternatively move away from you screen and keep an eye on her i use the latter tactic with the former for when i am out at work
