Sucrets just aren't cutting it anymore. My throat's torn up in some places right now (wrenched it from some really severe vommitting, it wasn't pretty). It's so incredibly sore, a week later. I can't swallow properly, and it's keeping me from falling asleep (which is why I'm not asleep right now).

Any suggestions to remedy this sore throat of mine? Oh yeah, I've also been drinking a disgusting amount of water. I'm refilling those bottled water things like 20 times a day or more (no, I'm not exaggerating, I have to pee ALL THE DAMN TIME).

Thanks.

Lots of Ibuprofen ( if you can get it down).

One of my favorite things with a sore throat - Is those frozen Icee pops, fruit flavored. Flavored, cold, easy to get down the hatch, and the cold feels good on my throat.

Do those Sucrets have menthol eucalyptus in them? If not, pick up something that does.

People also say gargling salt water may help, but I've never gotten any relief from it personally.

My mom is a nurse. I have a HORRIBLE sore throat right now. Sucrets used to help, as well as cloraseptic. But the best (has been worin last few days) 1000 mg of Ibuprofen and 500 mg amoxacyl or whateva. Take the 1000 of Ibuprofen 2 times a day. Every 12 hours. ANd the 500 of the Amox 3 times. Or every 8 hours.

Hopefully I helped.

I use the old fashioned way of gargalling salt water. I see results the next day.

I always take honey/lemon when I have a sore throat/cough--about one part lemon juice to 1.5 parts honey. For effect (make sure you drink water [if you can] so you don't get dehydrated add another part of whiskey/bourbon.

Believe it or not, the stuff works.

Saline spray can help keep what's in your nasal passages from making things worse, as can gargling with salt water several times a day.

Ibuprofen is a good bet, can also have some chewable children's asprin (get's right to the hurt and tastes just fine).

Rock salt, and some warm water?

That's what I usually get when I ask my family.

Can't really say if it works or not, but I try it anyway.

Ugh...went to the doctor this morning, the pain was unbearable all last night (it kept waking up, and when I tried to remedy it by drinking water, swallowing was so painful it drew tears). He took a quick look, and told me I have an ulcer in my throat, and there's not a damn thing I can do about it except ride it out. Strep test came back negative. He gave some really kick ass numbing stuff which is helping, but I can only take it once every 3 hrs, and it only lasts about 40 mins or so, it tastes like crap, it has the density of hair gel and i'm supposed to gurgle it....and swallowing is still extrodinarily painful.

So, an ulcer in the throat, how interesting. He said it should be gone within a week. I've already had it for one week. God this sucks.

He gave you lidocaine. Try the saturated salt water solution for a gargle. Then take ibuprofen liquid. Hurts less to swallow. Assuming you are an otherwise healthy adult, 20 ml is an appropriate dose. (That's 400 mg of the suspension, but make SURE you have the correct formulation of 100 mg/5ml)

It doesnt' seem to be getting much better. Everyday it's ever-so-*slightly* better, but he told me 7-10 days, and it's been 10. At this rate, I'll feel better in August. And today, I just started getting a cough.

Azraele, I love you hon, but read the thread. I saw the doctor a few days ago, thus all the numbing meds. Incidentally, because the pain is still persisiting, I saw my regular doctor today (before it was just one of those walk-in clinic things), and he said the reason it's still healing is because it's "the biggest freakin ulcer he's ever seen in anyone's throat." lol, i guess should be proud.

I had a similar situation last Labor day week. We were out of town, and my throat got so sore that I couldn't even think straight. No other symptoms. Throat looked like it ought to be bleeding, it was so red. Late at night, went to a hospital in West-by god-Virginia (no quik-pik doctors up there) and they gave me a 50/50 mixture of Maalox and liquid Benadryl. You just slosh it back to where it hurts for a minute, then spit it out. It worked GREAT. At least let me sleep.

If its been a week, I would see a doctor. I had something like that about 8 years ago and by the time I went to see the doctor it turned out to be mono. It started out as like strep throat, then it was more like a sore throat, and finally the mono kicked in. If you've never had it before, mono isn't pretty. High temperature, can't swallow, can't eat, even hard to drink anything. I was laid up for two weeks with it. They recommend you not go outside or anything.

The Maalox in that solution suspends the benadryl, allowing it to coat the affected area, allowing the swollen, irritated tissue to absorb the benadryl. The benadryl should help shrink the tissue. I would also try to take ibuprofen - that helps cut down swelling.

When I had mono, I used the same 50-50 mixture to handle my mouth ulcers (some were up to an inch long and 1 cm wide.) :disgust:

When Chloraseptic stopped working, that helped me out.
