I know this is OT but I'm glad someone posted it since I have @home ....... THis would really stink since I just turned off my home phone.... And told Qwest to !@#$! themselves.

I can just see it now ..."Oh know I have terets syndrome. I would really love to have a phone with you guys."

just got a letter in the mail from AT&T regarding this. They indicated they have made a bid to try to buy excite@home in which case service will continue unchanged and uninterruped. If they do not buy @home then AT&T has already made appropriate arrangements to provide their own service to their customers,

This will require a reconfig of the users machine. Probably a reboot of the cable modem and release/renew on the IP Id guess. Fingers are crossed...

Move to OT and change title to @Home WILL be ceasing operations on Friday. ATT will not get the @Home assets, unless they bid more than the paltry 303 million for a billion+ dollar network. Most of the cable companies have already begun transitioning their subscribers to their own networks. Some of Charter, Comcast, Cox, Shaw, Roberts are in the process. ATT has not said what they plan to do as of yet, because they think they will get the @Home network....highly doubtful with all the illegal dealings that the management of @Home and ATT were into. Final decision from the judge is supposed to come before Friday. There are 2 lawsuits against ATT and @Home from the bondholders and the shareholders (which I am party to)
Most of those that are being transistioned will not have to do anything but maybe reconfigure their network setting to DHCP and change their pop mail servers and reboot their pc....No power down of modem should be neccessary. I hope ATT gets screwed in the end. I have lost about $10k from ATT's draining of @Home that drove them to bankruptcy.

Iit is true. I just got Charter @home service hooked up about ten days ago and did not receive a notice (must be too new) but a friend of mine who also has Charter received an e-mail. Charter is going at it on their own and posted their announement message and plan at www.chartersupport.com if anyone is interested.

Pretty short notice for everyone's e-mail address to change though. I still have not received any notice from them so will probably have to contact them to confirm my new address......

I foresee confusion and lots of long support call hold times for many people......

Seems to me, that if my company was declaring bankruptcy, I'd take the $303 million and be happy. But this is absolutely ridiculous that they would send us a letter 4 days before the plug might be pulled. Another question is if they DON'T get Excite will they notify us at all when we're getting turned off? The letter said they would call everyone and leave messages if necessary, but my experience with AT&T is that you have as much chance of getting a return phone call as you do getting struck by lightning. Bye bye fast internet.

@Home wanted to take the 303 million, but the bondholders of the company are owed 750 million and the management of @Home made the deal with ATT at the same time they were filing for Chapter 11. Unfortunately, @Home is supposed to seek other options and try do renegotiate all its contracts before selling assets as to protect the bondholders and the shareholders money, this is their first job. Because ATT owns 23% of @Home and ATT held 7 of the 12 BOD seats on @Home, it is plain to see that ATT played heavy hand in the 303 million dollar deal so they could pay pennies on the dollar for @Home. ATT had previously payed Cox and Comcast $48 a share for their shares of @Home to get more control of @Home, they know the true value. @Home does not want to shut the network down, the bondholders lawsuit asks the judge to have the network shut down so new contracts can be negotiated at a more fair price to show that the cable companies have been getting service for so cheap and it will show the true value of @Home to the cable companies. The cable companies make big money on BB internet....@Home is paid 35% of what the cable companies charged....and they could charge whatever they wanted. I am only paying $10 a month...@Home gets $3.50 of that, is that fair?. ATT has been the slowest at letting their subscribers know about @Home shutting down the network, because they felt that they were going to get @Home and their would be no worry.....My cable company let me know a month ago....ever since the bondholders petitioned the court to shut it down. At first @Home was asked to stop taking new subscribers.....the cable companies started screaming....they all signed new agreements so @Home got more upfront money for each new subscriber I will post some links to some insight at what has been transpiring since early summer that show ATT is so guilty of trying to kill @Home and get the network for cheap. Oh yeah....ATT had said that if they get @Home, rates will just about double for the end user. I am so happy that Charter took initiative and built their own network. Sorry this is so long......

Wow! I currently use Time Warner for cable and pay $40 a month with a $5 discount for automatic payments. How'd you get yours so cheap?

Dear Comcast @Home Customer,

As you may know, Excite@Home, the Internet service provider for Comcast
@Home, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection at the end of September
2001. During this process, we are committed to keeping you informed about
any new developments and to providing you with the best high-speed Internet
service.

This month, Excite@Home petitioned the Bankruptcy Court for permission
to terminate agreements with its cable affiliates - including Comcast,
Cox and AT&T - on November 30, 2001. If the Court grants Excite@Home's
request, there could be a temporary disruption in the services Excite provides
to the more than four million customers served by its North American affiliates.

Please be assured that we value your business and are doing everything
possible to ensure that there will be no interruption of your Comcast @Home
service. Additionally, we have taken the following steps to minimize any
inconvenience should a temporary service disruption occur as a result of
the Court's ruling:

* Toll-free Customer Information Hotline (1-888-433-6963): you can call
in for the latest updates as we work to quickly resolve any issues.
* Web Site Message Center at www.comcastonline.com/info.htm: we will provide
online updates and an FAQ section to answer your questions.
* Automatic Account Credits: we will credit your account automatically,
so you will be properly reimbursed for any time you are without service.

We also have been working to develop a Comcast-managed network that will
provide you the always-on cable-powered, high-speed Internet service you've
come to enjoy. We will make this new service available as quickly as possible
and will provide you with more details in future correspondence.

Five years ago, Comcast became one of the first cable companies to offer
customers high-speed Internet service. We remain committed to providing
you with high quality service both now and in the future and thank you
for choosing Comcast.

Sincerely,

David Juliano
Sr. Vice President & General Manager

COMCAST @HOME FAQS

How can I connect to the Internet if my service is interrupted?
---------------------------------------------------------------
We recommend that you take advantage of Comcast's Connection Backup Program
to obtain free dial-up and e-mail service as a temporary alternative.
Visit www.comcastonline.com/info.htm today to sign up for service. (This
service requires that you have a phone modem.)

What will happen to my personal Web page ?
------------------------------------------
As a safety precaution, you should always backup your personal Web page
to a CD or hard drive. For detailed instructions, please visit www.comcastonline.com/info.htm.

What should I be doing right now?
---------------------------------
1. Back up your personal Web page.
2. Check your @Home e-mail daily. Opened messages will be saved automatically
to your hard drive.
3. Take advantage of Comcast's Connection Backup Program.

What will happen to any e-mail sent to me if my service is interrupted?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
We are hopeful that Excite@Home would store and hold your @Home e-mail
until the service is restored. However, we cannot guarantee that this
will happen as Excite@Home controls the e-mail servers.

What should I do with my Comcast cable modem?
---------------------------------------------
In the unlikely event of a service interruption, you should leave your
modem connected to your computer until service is restored. If you lease
your modem from Comcast, we would automatically issue a credit for both
service and equipment rental during any service interruption.

What should I do if there is a temporary service interruption?
--------------------------------------------------------------
1. Call the Comcast toll-free hotline at 1-888-433-6963 for regular status
updates.

keyed - I actually got a sweet deal form Charter in my area....I had been planning on dumping DishNetwork because of too many brownouts.....anyway....I saw an ad for a very good deal on cable ....39.99 a month for digital cable....all channels but Starz for 6 months....the second 6 months it would jump to 49.99 and then go to regular price of about $110 a month....but in addition to that they offered if you signed a years agreement for didgital cable, they would give you @Home service for only $10 a month for a year....I was worried about this because I already had @Home from them and I didn't think they would let me do that part of the deal...but I was able to sweet talk them into it....but the best part was that they actually paid me $300 for my satellite system....I only paid $40 for the thing....got the check in less than 2 weeks after switching. I do pay an additiaonal 6.95 a month for an extra IP address....I actually have 3 IP's but they are only charging me for 2. I did post this deal here after I got in....I think a couple people from here that are in my area got in......

No one click his link. It is a referral link to NetZero. Hopefully the mods will see that and edit his post to take that out.

Zwingle, you made an excellent post covering exactly what is going on. I knew that, but a lot of people probably didn't. Thanks for the info.

I just got a call from BellSouth last Thursday. DSL is now available in my area. Also, Knology (all in one provider - cable TV, phone service, and high-speed 'net) has recently cabled my neighborhood. Between those 2, I'm covered. Might take a few days of downtime while I schedule someone to come hook me up with one of those services, but if I do lose my connection via @Home, I can just switch. And BellSouth has 1.5M/640K down/up ADSL, so I'll have plenty enough speed for my needs.

Wow! Could it get any better than this? If Comcast@home goes down, I can get 10 free hours per month of 56k NetZero! Hold me back!

online chat with att@home csr

You say: just a quick question: I've prepaid for one year service. Do I have to worry about the money if the service is moved to ATT network?
In-Maria says: I am glad to inform you that you need not worry about the payments and services.

Comcast@home user here.. I HATE it. I mean I hate it bad. I moved and I used to have RoadRunner (which I loved) and the only options for me now is stupid @home with its crappy 128k up cap. and SWB DSL with its 128k up cap. I went with @home because I dont have to login to be online.

Dr. Mr @home:

I am glad you went out of business. Maybe now I can get a broadband connection in my area that doesnt suck. You offered a crappy product in my area, so I can understand why you went under. The only thing I dont understand is how you stuck around as long as you did.

god I hate @home

Well, mikehoim, I think you got wrongly accused. People jump to conclusions when seeing referral IDs. BUt before I said anything I went to the comcast site, and sure enough, they're trying to make money out of sending their out-of-luck customers to NetZero. That is a horrendous lack of ethics IMHO.
