What is your display type? Sony KV36HS420 36" CRT HD w/ HDMI
What is your display size?
What is the aspect ratio of your display?
What most closely matches your display resolution?

What is your sound system like?
Sony 7.1 110X7 Receiver
JBL E50 mains
JBL EC35 center
JBL E10 surrounds
Mirage S12 subwoofer

Bass shakers / some kind of tactile sound? (subwoofer doesn't count)
N/A

What is your system used for? HD Cable box, DVD's, GameCube, and music. In that order

What do you enjoy more? Movies in my own home, while not huge on a 36" CRT I don't have to deal with punk kids, crying babies, and cell phones.

What was your spending ratio like for video vs. sound? Video $800, Sound $1200
How much did you spend total?

How is your placement? Pretty good, best I could do with my limited room space and ergonomics of the living room. Center is mounted above TV, surrounds are behind on the back wall, mains are evenly spaced next to the TV, and subwoofer is near the back wall as well
What kind of room is it in?

How did you pick out your components?
Did some research, bus also shopped at my price points ensuring I got the best bang for my buck. YoYo da Jello did answer some questions on the subwoofer choice. I also visited eCoustics and AVS forums.

Did you / are you getting your money's worth?
Yes, I want to upgrade screens to a Sony Bravia or Pioneer Elite LCD in the 46" to 50" size in the next 2yrs but with so much viewing done at non HD levels it is not worth the cost of upgrading yet.

What is your display type?
Dell 1100MP DLP projector

What is your display size?
About 110" right now

What is the aspect ratio of your display?
4:3

What most closely matches your display resolution?
I guess 480p since my projector does 800x600 native. It can interpolate to 720p pretty well though. Next projector will definitly be 720p native.

What is your sound system like?
Klipsh floorstanding front speakers and Klipsch center, I'll try to get the actual model numbers in a bit. I have JVC suround that are not currently hooked up. They're crappy anyway and need to be upgraded. Have an OK sub.

Bass shakers / some kind of tactile sound? (subwoofer doesn't count)
Nope

What is your system used for?
DVD/gaming/some HD tv

What do you enjoy more?
I enjoy watching stuff more at my place. Get a bunch of friends over and watch a movie or catch Heroes monday nights

What was your spending ratio like for video vs. sound?
Probably about 2:1 in video's favor.

How much did you spend total?
In the 2k-2.5k range.

How is your placement?
Set up somewhat according to good guidelines, but still needs tweaking.

What kind of room is it in?
Living room currently, but I'm thinking of moving everything to the family room due to better room sizing and easier ambient light control.

How did you pick out your components?
Research online and asking A/V friends.

Lights are on above me and some sun is coming through the windows. I also got a ton of pics of The 5th, LOR, and some others if you want to see them. I am trying to upload them but as usual Image shack keep booting me off so its taking me for ever.

Projector:
Optoma H31 $599 NEW AR

Screen:
Elite 100" $59.99 from Tiger Direct

Sound:
Logitech Z5500 $250

Total:
$910

Enjoyment playing games and movies on it with my family:
PRICELESS

Ok, I think I have you conviced on Front Projection now.

Time to start saving up for a sound system

Told you, I have owned it all as far as sound from high dollar componants and speakers to cheap ass in the box stuff. You have to hear the Z5500 in person and in your house to believe it. I am more then happy with the sound that comes from this and sounds a lot better then muilti thousand dollar sets I have put together in the past. For $250 I can see to upgrade for I would spend a ton more on seperate pieces and end up with the same sound quality.

I feel I am a audiophile, been into sound and getting the best I can for my money for over 20 years. Heard pretty much it all. Some point I may go to 7.1 but not in any big rush. Im quite happy, and honestly I think thats all that matter is if YOUR happy. No need to make others happy and buying what others say you have to, or to have just to show off. I have had a lot of people come over look at the sound system and then tell me they would never of believed what they are hearing was coming out of them if they just saw them and was told. And I will continue to push them as a great HT set till something comes along thats better IMO.

Now as far as the projector goes, you got me thinking on that and the fact I couldnt find anything I liked that gave me a big ass picture on the cheap without having to change a bulb. Im glad I took your advise, researched on it for 3 months, and took the plunge. Im am very happy with the projector and will never go back to big screen in a ugly ass box or little ass lcd (little for me now is 70 inces or less )

Just messing with you

What is the aspect ratio of your display?
4:3

What most closely matches your display resolution?
480i

What is your sound system like?

Bass shakers / some kind of tactile sound? (subwoofer doesn't count)
If my feet stomping counts, then yes.

What is your system used for?
Music mostly... occasional movies

What do you enjoy more?
Hard to tell... I listen to music pretty much in the background of everything I do, same goes for movies as well, but not as seriously as others where I would sit down and watch it. My answer? They're both there... music is played MUCH more though than movies

What was your spending ratio like for video vs. sound?
Infinite : 1 - TV was free, bought all the audio equipment

How much did you spend total?
~$3k in cash, not calculated with MSRP's, TV value/cost, accessories (cables given free), etc.

How is your placement?
Not conventional, speakers are in two corners with the sub in the middle. I've tried other ones and this seems to work best for me... I haven't moved them around in ages and so maybe I will eventually to see what kind of difference it makes.

What kind of room is it in?
My bedroom

How did you pick out your components?
Listened to what local shops carried, read a little online but not too much, at least not as much as the OP.

Did you / are you getting your money's worth?
Yes, I had doubts earlier but I'm very happy with what I have. Eventually I'd like to build a system dedicated for music in a bedroom and use these components for a HT along with an upgraded amp/receiver by then, but that's far off.

I dont think a home theater is meant to replace going out to the movies. Not for me at least. Its to improve your "home" viewing.

What is your display type?

What is your sound system like?

5.1

Definitive Technologies Mythos One Fronts
Definitive Technologies Mythos Four Center
Definitive Technologies Mythos Gems Surrounds
Definitive Technologies SuperCube 2 Sub
Denon AVR-2807 Receiver
Sony SACD Player

Bass shakers / some kind of tactile sound? (subwoofer doesn't count)

No

What is your system used for?

10% DVD
10% HD-DVD
30% HD Broadcasts
10% High Resolution Music (SACD)
30% Xbox 360
10% SDTV

What do you enjoy more?

Listening to an SACD is an unbelievele experience. When I first put in DSOTM, I was 100% floored. Could have easily been the most impressed I've ever been in regards to HT.

What was your spending ratio like for video vs. sound?

Almost 2:1, but more like 1.75:1.

How much did you spend total?

Around $18,000 after everything. The TV was bought Open Box, for $9000 on sale from $13500.

How is your placement?

Display / Speakers are in excellent positions, but no wall treatment.

What kind of room is it in?

It's a dedicated room in the basement.

How did you pick out your components?

Extensive researching, as well as extensive demoing, as well as design. Design was a big factor, and was the main reason I went with the Mythos over anything else.

Did you / are you getting your money's worth?

100%. It was VERY expensive, but it was worth it, by all means. I've never enjoyed watching TV or listening to music more then I do now. I refuse to go to the theater as well, because the experience is just incomparable at home.

It's pretty cool when watching movies at home is a cooler experience than going to the movies, though-- more comfortable seats, better picture quality and better sound. There are very few things I'd pay to see in a movie theatre anymore.

Note that I only think the picture quality has been better on ours the last few times since the theaters have actually had their systems out of focus or not lined up with their screen correctly
