What is your display type?
Samsung CRT (but display calibrated with Digital Video Essentials)

What is your display size?
27"

What is the aspect ratio of your display?
4:3

What most closely matches your display resolution?
1080i (I had to get into the service menu to do that)

What is your sound system like?
Sources: Onkyo DV-CP802 (SA-CD/DVD-A/everything player), xbox media center (mp3/flac/divx/xvid/everything streamer)
Receiver: Harman Kardan AVR-330
Amp: Crown XLS-402A DJ Pro Amp (only used for mains)
Main Speakers: Polk LSi9's
Surrounds: Onix ELT LRS (they were only $100!... they match the fronts okay-ish)
Sub: Onix X-Sub

Bass shakers / some kind of tactile sound? (subwoofer doesn't count)
Not right now but I'd like to in the future.

What is your system used for?
When I use it: 50% music, 20% movies, 15% games, 15% TV
When roommate uses it r friends come over: 50% TV, 50% games (*sigh*)

What do you enjoy more?
I can watch either at home or in a movie theater. Biggest thing for me is closed lights, good video, good sound. I'd prefer at home. It's more comfortable and CAN look and sound better.

What was your spending ratio like for video vs. sound?
It's ridiculous because I only spent $200 on the TV (and it's 1080i!)
I've spent ~$2000 on audio gear
So about 10:1 audio

How much did you spend total?
$2000-2500 (several summers of saving)

How is your placement?
Rears and fronts are equally far. Rule of thirds is followed. Main tweeters are at ear height. Rears are 2 feet higher and farther apart width-wise. Everything calibrated with DVE and Radio Shack SPL meter. I haven't had time or money to add room treatments but I'd like to.

What kind of room is it in?
Living room to my college apartment.

How did you pick out your components?
Forums (avsforum)

Did you / are you getting your money's worth?
For sure. The Beatles Love DVD-A sounds amazing!
It's been hard to put this together on a college student's budget but it's definitely been worth it.

The X-sub is in transit, I'll let you know when I get it. My room is about 13'x17'. I decided to get a smaller sub because I live in an apartment building and I don't want to bother the neighbors tooooo much.

Luckily being above a bar I can pretty much do whatever I want in our apartment

Another AT member I was talking with just got an SVS PC+ model that I found for him used and he had to give it to his sister due to complaints from fellow apartment members

16:9

480P

What is your sound system like?

Bass shakers / some kind of tactile sound? (subwoofer doesn't count)
No

What is your system used for?
90% movies, 10% video games, occasionally music since its in home theatre room

What do you enjoy more?
movies at home so i can relax and enjoy with family, the sound and picture are just as good

What was your spending ratio like for video vs. sound?
3:2 audio -- the projector was a great deal at Costco, the rest really went into nice audio components. Sound is everything in a movie.

How much did you spend total?
about $1800 -- it would have been a lot more, but I got everything on sale and some of it at 1/2 price sales

How is your placement?
Basic 5.1. All speakers are equally spaced based on dimensions of the room, which is 16' by 12'.

What kind of room is it in?
Dedicated home theatre built when my house was 2 years ago, pre-wired for 5.1

How did you pick out your components?
Research and listening in store

Did you / are you getting your money's worth?
Yes. The sound system is really perfect for the room, and the projector does well with movies. The picture is sharp and takes up about 2/3 of a wall. People really enjoy it when they come over, and for action movies, it is a really great experience.

Yeah it's definitely a little disappointing. Especially since I saw the Hsu STF-2 for $80 off. But I think once I hear the X-Sub in action I'll be happy. I listen to music mostly anyway. Besides, the louder the sub gets, the more guilty I'll feel. I want to get the sub now before winter break so I have time to play around with it before I leave, but mostly so right when I come back to school after winter break, I can start messing with it right away. I'll definitely give you my impressions. At least my initial ones.

How do people spend so little? LoL. My LCD panel alone is $3800 + tax (Sony XBR2 46") and my receiver is close to $1000 with just the front 2 B&W speakers adding another $1000

I don't understand.

I'd just like to add that it seems like the used market is being flooded with old RPTVs and tube televisions. I guess the prices finally came down enough that people are starting to buy into HD on a large scale.

I'm surprised, but at the same time not, of the lack of 7.1 support. For most users it just seems like marketing and just adds additional clutter to most home theaters.

They simply don't have the space to fully take advantage of the added sound field.

I had 5.1 when I started the thread and moved up to 7.1 since then. My room is long enough that it worked alright for me but I agree that a lot of people don't really have a room where 7.1 is worth it over 5.1
