<< That would be a decent $$ division.......
If you want to take the trouble to DIY speakers, here's a Vance Dickason home theatre kit (5 speakers) using Audax and Morel components. The dipole surrounds are a really nice touch

Vance Dickason designed HT system
That price includes every single component needed to build the speakers, and instructions
Sure it may "seem" expensive, but note that this system can easily put any Paradigm, Energy, probably even Wharfdale system to shame.

Wrong link there Viperoni!

BTW, I Just bought DC-7 speakers from VAF and are amazed by their quality compared to other speakers in the same price rang (~450 US) If ya got the time, go DIY, save a chunk of money and get some damn nice speakers!!

damm, you're right!

I can't link to the page......it seems that I can only get that resistor link from the page......wierd!

Anyhoo, here's the Pic of the system and
Here's the link to measurements/parts

All it takes is a bit of patience (soldering), and you'll have an awesome setup; the caps are very good quality, the coils are decent, and the resistors are one of the best available (audiophiles use them )

some of the high end series of Missions rock... paired with a Denon or H/K receiver and you've got yourself a nice setup...

Why izit that everyone hates Bose?

I prefer a Yamaha reciever, which may be a bit pricey, but you can get low priced, good sounding Acoustic Research 'Edge' satellites, matching Subwoofer and Center channel from Sears. They'll price match the lowest prices you can find on-line. Hey, if you don't like em', they're easy enough to return to your local Sears B&M

Check out a set of M&Ks. I have a set of THX150's all the way around + center & Sub.

One of the neat things about Yamaha is the "Front Effects" outputs for a second pair of (small, low power) front speakers. They get a derived signal that fills in the front image and (IMHO) improves the ambiance effects. Of course, if you're a purist, you don't have to use 'em, or you can turn 'em on or off at the push of a (remote) button,

Audio is a very subjective thing. Speakers that sound like crap to you will bring tears of rapture to someone elses's eyes. Buy what sounds good to you, everybody hears differently....especially as you get old.

Good Luck, good hunting.

Ya know what....unless several ppl scream "Noooooo! The Energy Take5.2s and Yamaha RX-V496 are a TOTAL waste of your money! Hide the women and children!" er something like that, I'll just stick with that.
It may be true Paradigm/Klipsch/M&K/whatever may be better, but for me it's all the same. I have other things to fester over....like watching the paint peel off of my dorm ceiling.
