I'm thinkin' about this JBL, a pretty good deal IMO:

I think Mirage has a really nice sub in that price range (check maybe Vanns.com). Can't recall if HSU or SVS has one that cheap or not.

Hmm whoops you said $250 shipped, I somehow was looking at $300 before shipping.

I had a budget sony sub that I used for the bedroom - WM10 or something like that. Pretty impressive for the price.

In all seriousness...this sub is amazing for its money...

But as another user mentioned the SVS and HSU are great too, but i just was quite impressed with the power that 10" had...

Remember you get what you pay for. I would save up a little more money and get a Velodyne. I did and would never turn back. I got the CHT-10 and love it.

Its a nice sub but you can do better. They have a 12" one for a little more. Or maybe grab two of the 10" ones.

That's why I did (thanks YoYo & Ribbon13!) and I'm more than pleased with it. They want $499 for the pre-assembled version; the kit takes like 20 minutes to build max, and that's if you take a bathroom break and get a snack

Yeah, if you can fit into an HSU, do so. Maybe check used HSU prices?

If not, my first recommendation was a Dayton sub - build quality *will not* be great, but the sound will be amazing for the price.

I would be wary of the JBL. The drivers and build quality of the cabinets are pretty poor compared to the Dayton subs from partsexpress.

The build quality is horrible - you'll think it was used or something and not treated well
