that's a 5.1 set right?
you need help positioning the rear satellites and subwoofer correct?

rear satellites: you should either wall mount or get some end tables or speaker stands and position them on the left and right of the sofa directly opposite the TV.
subwoofer: some people recommend putting the subwoofer in a corner, though it doesn't really matter too much

Well, it depends how much work you want to put into it. In a corner is the best "general" placement, but it can be a bit boomy, I suggest do it right the first time and do a proper sub crawl. HERE is another good thread about sub crawls.

For the satellites, you want to make sure your alignment of them and your center are as close horizontally as possible for best left to right transitioning.

For the rear speakers, it depends. Does your receiver offer distance adjustment?

As for the subwoofer, you "can" place it anywhere in the room, but I think it sounds the best being as close to the front speakers as possible. It just doesn't blend it well enough for me from other locations.

Good point about the rears. OP: also look at Dolby's recommended placement.

With the sub, it really varies with the room. Some rooms have null areas, thus the importance of a proper sub crawl to find them. Some people's sound best in front, some nearfield like next to or behind a couch, some in a rear corner, etc. It really varies from room to room with acoustics.
