Finally got things to where I wanted them to be a month ago... so figured I'd post an update.
The final environment consists of a different standalone ITX PC running pfSense 2.7.2 CE, a Netgear M4100 switch and 3 downstream Unifi access points. The new firewall appliance is more powerful and the switch is newer, so the web management works in modern browsers. I did need to do the initial configuration with PuTTy and CLI commands, but I was able to scrape my way through that.
I still need to refine my firewall rules for some granular traffic control, but everything's working great now. I have my servers, endpoints, wifi devices and IoT all working on their own vlans, getting IP and able to resolve DNS etc. I do have one downstream switch from the M4100 that is working but I can't ping it. PC's connected to that one are getting the proper IP/DNS config so I'm just ignoring it for now.
Currently working on adding my IP cameras and setting up the storage for that system, so I'm sure I'll grapple w that a little bit. Good for now though, cheers!
