This beer should be interesting. As my friend Matthew said the other day, there is no in-between with Rasberry Red Honey-Apple Ale, it's either awesome or it sucks.
I bought the ingredients for Rasberry Red Ale, which is basically a red ale with rasberry extract added. But the other day I was at the grocery store and decided I'd experiment with some adjuncts. I ended up adding a pound of honey and 2 cans of apple concentrate to the original recipe. I'll quote the recipe here, and update throughout as to how the process is going. The original gravity of the wort was 1.064, so this should be a pretty strong brew if all goes well!
6 lbs. Gold Malt Extract (Liquid)
12 oz. Crystal 40L Malt
2 oz. Special B malt
2 oz. Roasted Barley Malt
1 oz. Cascade Hops (Bittering Hops)
1 oz. Fuggles Hops (Aroma Hops)
1 lb. pure, unfiltered honey
2 cans apple juice concentrate
Munton's Dry Ale Yeast
After fermentation:
4 oz. Raspberry Extract
3/4 c. priming sugar
I'm really hoping this will be a good beer, but I'm a little worried that maybe I went a little too crazy with it. But honestly, even if it isn't stellar, I'm sure I'll like it since it's the product of my own hands! This is my second-ever batch of homebrew. My first was a nut brown ale that is AWESOME!!! I still have a little over half of that batch left, and it's the best beer I've ever had.
