Promising new thriller-diller on SHO.

He's a war hero Marine newly freed from captivity in Afghanistan, but WAIT! He was turned by the Taliban, and only one uber intense female CIA analyst knows!

ZOMG! D:

Watched the first ep last night (it airs on Sundays.) It was good enough that I'll def keep watching.

Stars Damien Lewis, who just looks right for the part, and Claire Danes, who just looks good, period.

Currently getting an 8.8/10 from over 800 viewers on imdb as well.

It's got high stakes action, Jackson, and promises more drama than ATOT!

Wow, I was sure this would be an unauthorized taping sure to be taken down soon. But Showtime put it up!

Brilliant move on their part to capture an audience they wouldn't otherwise get, imho.

I have SHO because I have EVERYTHING (for a ridiculous new low triple play FIOS price of < $74/mo., btw -- it just keeps getting less and less), but I've always thought of SHO as the premium channel nobody really wants to pay for because there's no compelling reason to.

I liked it. It kind of felt like they were giving away a lot for the first episode, but I gather there will be many twists and turns, so it's hard to know whether what we've seen is real. Love the premise, love the cast, and the writing seems respectable. I look forward to seeing more.

Showtime has Dexter and Weeds, plus a few other less-popular shows. I'd rather have Showtime than Cinemax or Starz.

Not really:

Oh well, that's why god gave us torrents.

I was a big fan of Life (starring Damian Lewis), best quirky cop show in ages. I didn't know they'd made the full first episode available, thanks.

Disagree completely.

Dexter, Shameless, The Big C, Episodes (which got much better as the season went on), Californication, Weeds, boxing, MMA and the movies too.

I'd say it's a tossup between SHO and HBO (I prefer the shows on SHO though). The others just can't compete. IMO, Cinemax is by far the worst of the bunch, unless you like softcore porn and don't own a computer with an internet connection.

Oops, and to stay on topic, I enjoyed the first episode of Homeland. Definitely one of those shows that will probably start out a bit slow and pick up as the season goes along. I'm a huge fan of Damien Lewis anyway and Claire Danes is awesome.

You are correct, sir. I have erred. SHO airs some good'uns.

For whatever reason, though, I'm not a fan of Dexter, which is not to say I would claim its not a good show -- I just don't watch.

But I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Shameless, and The Big C just got real in it's last op, yo. Plus, I still watch the increasingly improbable Weeds, and often enough watch Californication.

I was probably thinking of Starz or Cinemax, both of which I have as well, but neither of which I can remember tuning in to.

yeah, Showtime has mostly lapped HBO in the last several years with their programming.

Love the premise and LOVE the cast, too. Also agree about them giving away too much in the first ep -- way too obvious to be straight up. I hope they're not gonna' claim dream sequence or some shit. I'm guessing more like double/triple agent.

If you have Directv Homeland is also shown on the Audience Network Channel 101 for free. Directv usually shows one or two episodes of the new shows on Showtime to try and get you hooked so you will purchase Showtime.

I admit I was wrong about Showtime but I really can't agree that it's lapped HBO. Game of Thrones alone puts HBO neck and neck, not to mention Boardwalk Empire and Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Then you also have Entourage (just finished, I know), Hung, True Blood (increasingly silly but still watchable), East Bound and Down (crude but can be funny), and Bored To Death (quirky but can be really funny at times -- love Ted Danson's character.)

I seldom watch Bill Maher's talk show but it can be good, in infrequent doses. And I'll probably give Enlightened with Laura Dern a look see this Monday.

I'd like to add that, out of all the shows I or anyone else has mentioned in this thread, the only ones I'd really, truly, absolutely miss if they went away are Game of Thrones and Shameless. And maybe Boardwalk Empire. With series like those first two, though, TV has truly come a looooong way.

Boardwalk Empire was really good, I watched the first season but don't have HBO now, so don't watch anymore. Also watched Hung, Bill Maher and Entourage and enjoyed them. I think Starz is one of the worst. They draw you in with the "most" channels, but the movies on most of the channels are very old and they replay the same movies a month at a time (much worse than SHO, HBO or even Cinemax).

Not sure if anyone caught it on SHO but they had a late night show called "The Green Room" with Paul Provenza (sp?). It was pretty damn funny. Just 5 comedians sitting around discussing stand up, life, anything really. It was usually on at like 2am though and I think they only had like 5 or 6 episodes this summer. I never had seen it before.

I'll stop going off topic now Perk.

Doesn't bother me one bit. I went way off my own OP's narrow topic myself, you know, like convos naturally tend to IRL!

I think the show looks good and has great potential but I can't get over the lead, Damian Lewis. I completely disagree with the OP.

Lewis looks like a grown up kid. I don't mean that obvious, that all adults were children once. What I mean is he literally looks like a 16 year old ginger that's in a bigger body. He is completely not convincing as some mastermind hidden Al Qaeda operative who's going to pull off some major attack.

Well, ummm, errrrr, I completely disagree with your complete disagreement.

For me, Damian Lewis has some indescribable something right in his face, and in his uber-controlled manner of being, that really hints at his character being capable of a real exlposion of black fury lurking just below the surface . . . or something.

I'm not describing it well, but for me, he's got it. And I just gosh-darn wub Claire Danes, always have, ever since My So Called Life and Shakespeare in Love.

There was a movie or an episode of some TV show that was JUST LIKE this show. Why? In it, an American POW is forced to kill his friend with a blunt object. Afterwards, he is rescued by friendly forces and spends his time in the USA trying to hide the fact that he killed his friend.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I can't remember the title.
