Had lunch with my cousin. She said the homeless incident in her neighborhood is also out of control. There is a homeless shelter near the park where she lives. It used to be only for women. But the problems started when they started taking in men. Now all hell has broken lose. Things have gotten so bad that Mayor Bloomberg had to go to the park and announce that it was safe. He stayed for only ten minutes. Now, with a little community activism, the mayor has sent someone from the Police Commissioner's office, as well as people from the United Nations and other organizations to the homeless shelter to pacify the occupants. If they move that shelter I will try to get them to move mine. Here are some of the incidents that have happened in the Dag Hammarskjold Plaza:
Incident: Katherine Hepburn's bench was been violated in major ways by homeless people from the shelter. People have been observed sucking and fucking on it, in addition to doing drugs.
Incident: A homeless veteran in a wheelchair was observed being mounted by a woman and having sex at 10:30AM.
Incident: A lady was observed barking at a dog.
Incident: A brawl involving ten men from the shelter was observed in the park.
Incident: Drug activity was observed in the Katherine Hepburn Garden.
Incdident: A resident of the shelter was shot and killed by police when she brandished a knife and refused to put it away.
This place is across the street from the United Nations. I think the shelter will keep them indoors during the General Assembly but they are free to roam like wild animals during the other times of the year. Sad thing is there's a YMCA between 2nd and 3rd Avenue and the kids that come there come from poor neighborhoods. They come to that area to escape the crap that goes on in their neck of the wood, only to see something similar near the UN.
