that is the comment one of my co-workers had said. he's almost 17. he said congress should pass that law, he doesn't want homosexuals to influence his kids, so we should keep them "hidden" for as long as we can. "it's disgusting and not right."

i couldn't believe what i had just heard. i wanted to kick him in the nuts right then and there. but i'd rather have the option of this job next summer if i really needed the money, as much as it sucks (he happnes to be the son of one of the managers high up on the ladder). makes me ashamed to have been 17 and to have gone to the same HS as him. how many ppl like this are still out there?

I'm sorry, i just had to vent this. that kind of statement.. and the way he said it... just pissed me off.

IN this country, we have the Freedom of Speech. This means that even though you may not agree with his words, you have to support his right to say it.

WRONG! If you do not support his right to free speech, then we might as well toss out the Constitution.

They don't have to come out in order to influence you. All you have to do is shake hands with or brush up against one in an elevator and the "H" gene transfers itself to you and you instantly become gay.

Right, but he's an advocate of passing legislation to suppress or discriminate against a particular group.....also not very in keeping with the Constitution.

Redneck alert.

While I personally this homosexulaity is nasty and unatural.I don't go around telling gay people off. If that is how you want to live your life more power to you. What gets me is when there is a gay pride parade and they have signs saying basically I am gay and you have to love me. I don't have to love anyone. Like I said if you want to live your life like that fine, just don't be forcing your views on me.

Should heterosexuals also not display any affection for opposite sex until 21?
There are some whackos out there. Just watched American Beauty yesterday. Great movie.

i heard that's how they cure themselves of gayness, sort of like how africans get rid of aids and how medieval lepers tried to cure themselves.

You should grab the nearest gay person an ask them what the pride parades are all about. (Hint: it's not "I'm gay and you have to love me". )

A) A law saying that one can't declare a sexual preference, especially at the federal level, would be pretty unconstitutional.
B) In a way, I agree with him--making the decision to "Come Out" carries a lot of weight. Being openly gay subjects you to harassment, ridicule, even physical harm. I'm not so interested in protecting straight people from gays' "influences," but it may actually be a good idea to wait until you are mentally mature enough to handle all the good and bad things that come with being "out." I know people in their 20s whom I think still lack the maturity to deal with their own sexuality.
C) You are going to come across people whom you disagree with and abhor for your entire life. If you spend all your days getting mad at or trying to change each and every one, you will be miserable.

Even if someone isn't officially "gay" or hasn't come out, they are still going to behave like the fruits they are and have just the same amount of influence. Your coworker really has his head up his ass on this one. Hell, I'd much rather have my kid influenced by homosexuals than by back-ass-ward ignorant and intolerant homophobes.

Fausto-I agree it is not about that for the majority. That is just the outspoken minority. Sorry I should have said that. You are right.

Exercise your own freedom of speech. Options include:

1. Tell him such a law would probably be unconstitutional.

2. Tell him he's an ignorant POS.

3. Anything else you might want to say in words.

Kicking him in the nuts probably goes beyond permissable freedom of expression.

they are not views. it's just the way they are. you can't force yourself to love someone of the opposite sex.

a) good point.
b) sorta agree with you there, mainly cause of the way ppl would respond. it shouldn't be that way, but unfortunately, that's the world we live in
c) i disagree w/ a lot of things, this just happens to be a first for me, just blatent right out ignorance.
