Neat video and all, but who precisely is this type of a bike supposed to impress?

No one. Not every form of motorcycling is built around impressing other people with a lifestyle statement.

There is something pure about the air-cooled Japanese 4 cylinder bikes. Especially a Honda. They don't have the "hurry up" of a sport bike, the "look how bad-ass I am" image of a cruiser, or the added weight and gadgetry of a touring bike. They are the type of machine that disappears under you. They do everything so well and so elegantly, you don't have to think about operating controls or how you are going to attack the next curve.

One of the first (and best) bikes i have ever owned was a 1978 CB750K. My senses still remember the "buzz" of the motor through the bars and pegs, the smell of the engine on a hot day, and the view off simple analog gauges and a chrome headlamp from the cockpit. The bike was almost 20 years old when I got it, and it still looked and rode like new.

this. i have a 79 cb750 in my back yard collecting dust that i love dearly. this new one looks a lot like it in style, but i dont really like the bracket tail light assembly or the harsh lines on the tank. i also like the look of the 79 engine better, the side covers were huge and stuck out instead of the flatter design like this engine. cool looking bike imo, not sure if it will sell well here tho with current bike styles.

The USA will probably never get it because Honda thinks there is no market for standards, or throwback UJMs. And they're probably right. Same goes for the Kawasaki W800, but that might be because it would be a tough sell against the newer Thai-built Triumph Bonneville.

Also if I remember correct from threads on this over on vintage CB forums, the asking price is a bit of a shocker, or at least is to someone used to 30 year old bikes.

That is a very nice looking bike. My stepfather has a 1994 Honda Shadow 750cc. It is a great bike.

That is the biggest problem with all Japanese makes.

Few buyers will drop $9-12k on a new CB1100 when you can get older 750cc Honda Nighthawks or 600-1200cc Suzuki Bandits (to name a couple air cooled nakeds) for $2-4K with low miles and in pristine condition.

The same thing happened in the late '80s and early '90s. There were some really cool 250-650cc bikes that were priced so close to 600cc sport bikes at the time few were sold. Why buy a Honda CB1 (400cc naked) or Hawk GT (650cc naked), when you could get a CBR600 for a couple hundred more.
