Take any model Civic against any new model Dakota. Which one would you take over the other, and for what reasons? And, which one do you think would win in 0-60 and 1/4-mile?

If you choose Civic you can assume it has its little vtec, and the top end V8 for the Dakota.

What are your choices and why?

edit, for comparison:
Dakota R/T 5.9L
Civic Si 2.0L

civic, i don't need to haul lumber. i don't need to pollute the enviroment more then is required

hell theres a civic hybrid.

emissions standards for trucks is lower then that of cars. add in mpg difference and u probably should justify why u really need a truck

hehe. both come in either standard or automatic.

civic has like 100ft-lbs, the dakota has 345ft-lbs.. hehe.

interesting results so far!

Dakota. For the ability to hall crap just in case. If you get the 4 door, you will have more than enough space inside for partygoers.

As for speed and 1/4.. Who cares? But without looking, I am going to day the Dakota would win a 1/4 mile, while the honda would win in the twisties.

Both have decent upgradability, leaning towards the Dodge.

Dakota 5.9 R/T would rip it a new one all day long in terms of speed.. but the Civic is more practical for most people..

this is comparing apples to oranges.. why?

Why would I want a truck? Trucks are so incredibly impractical, unless you are a part of the minority of truck owners that actually needs a truck.

Yeah but given only a choice between a Dakota and a Nancy Boy Civic I would think any guy whose set has dropped would take the Dakota, even if it's just to sell to buy anothyer car that isn't as swishy as a Civic.

hehe "civics are for girls" and "trucks are for rednecks"

So we generally agree that trucks are impractical and civics are practical. Why?

I'd take the truck. I already have a car, and with a truck I could haul crap around and go camping and stuff.

Why would it be a dick extension just to drive a truck? Has the thought occured to you that some people may simply enjoy driving a truck? lol! My friend bought a beat up old jeep and loved it.. his step dad has a truck like the dakota he wants, and he got to drive it and loved it. he test drove a 99 he was interested in and he loved that as well..

meh...I HATE trucks. Especially in cities...they annoy me to no end. I'm not a huge Civic fan, but I'd drive a Civic over any truck any day.

umm...maybe you've had bad experiences, but aren't one of Civic's big selling points their reliability?

Gas prices are too high to get a truck willingly. I have a jeep cherokee that guzzles gas, but I have it so I can do my mountain bike/hiking trips around here. The honda will definitely last longer too if you maintain it. They are pretty decent cars. Just evaluate if you really need a truck or not...otherwise, it'll just be overkill for tranportation.

I hate Civics but really dislike trucks (just no need) so alas I would have to go with the Civic.

A Dakota wins it for me on the issue of low rpms/higher torque vs. the civics high rev/low torque numbers. The dakota's mpg is a little scary though.

I'd take the dakota, 4x4 of course though.
