if you can live with a civic (don't NEED a truck) then by all means buy the car with better gas milage, better performance, and a better ride...

2WD, Non extended/quad cab pickup trucks are next to usless to me. Now, if it was 4WD and wasn't a regular cab, then we'll talk.

i highly doubt the civic will perform better unless the dakota is a 3.9 V6 (in a straight line anyways) and i also will bet the ride is alot smoother in the truck too.. (been in civics) especially the new civics have a not so good ride.

If it was an SUV, I would say it was too effeminate.

I would definately pick the Civic... like 0roo said, no need to pollute more than necessary.

People around here (TEXAS) have the exact same attitude. cars are for girls, or some bullshit like that... so they drive inefficient, polluting trucks to prove their manhood. Makes me wonder.

It's common sense....

THe Dakota will win if you want to race.

If you want the best overall and most dependable car on the road, choose the Civic.

Huh, that's funny. My '92 Civic has 240k+ miles on it and it runs great. The only time I have had it on a lift, was when I hit a pot hole the size of New Jersey and I bent my exhaust pipe.

If you're anything like me renting a truck anytime I needed one would be impracticle. It seemed like once I became a homeowner a truck became a necessity.

BTW-I drive a 2WD '91 Dakota with a standard cab and a 318ci engine.

I'd take a Civic Type-R.

That car would give a R/T Dakota a good run and it would have way better gas mileage.

Muahahhahahahah!

why are there so many stupid threads like these. Some cars just shouldn't be raced. There was an altima vs. accord one earlier.

Just race and find out. Why post? Now if it was Supra VS. Saleen or something, that would be another story entirely...

For me, it's a no-brainer, the Dakota.

When I was in college a Civic would've been all I needed. And since I had/have a Sentra that fit my needs perfectly. Now that I'm out of college and a homeowner (and also do a lot of part-time work for a local soccer club in my spare time) I never cease to be amazed how much I need a pickup. My dad has a 4-door Dakota Quad cab and I'm borrowing it all the time to haul stuff around (SUVs suck for hauling anything odd-shaped or dirty, don't honestly see hauling capacity as a justification for those if you're doing anything other than hauling groceries and small, box-sized stuff.) He's only got the standard 6 so it doesn't have gobs of power, but when I'm driving a truck I don't care about speed. And the 4-door is ideal for us since we'll probably be adding a baby to the family within the next two years and a 4-door would give much needed backseat room. I'm personally leaning toward a 4-door Tacoma since it's a little bit smaller than the Dakota, gets better gas mileage and Toyota makes probably the most reliable trucks going. It might not be the fastest thing on the road (although the V6 has plenty of gusto according to most reviews), but I really could care less. For me, it's probably the most practical thing I could buy for my needs.

Huh?
I sure hope that you aren't serious about this.

Well, if I was going to get a truck, I wouldn't get a pansy one like the Dakota, so I'll take the Civic. If it was a Ram 3500, esp the diesel, or a Silverado, then we might be talking.
If I'm getting a truck, I'm getting a T R U C K.

after having driven a truck that get comparable mileage to the dakota and now my civic. I'll take the civic hands down. I love the economy and i like smaller cars. The environmental factor is nice too.

Don't have a need for a truck, don't think trucks are "cool", so I'd go for a Civic. And, I really don't care what's faster. If I'm racing Civics and Dakotas, I really need to get a new hobby. If I want a fast car, I'd get a cheap sports car.

Why the hell are we comparing a truck vs an economy sedan? Which one we deem faster? Which one we deem more useful? Which one we deem cool? What are we comparing exactly?
