For me, it's a no-brainer, the Dakota.
When I was in college a Civic would've been all I needed. And since I had/have a Sentra that fit my needs perfectly. Now that I'm out of college and a homeowner (and also do a lot of part-time work for a local soccer club in my spare time) I never cease to be amazed how much I need a pickup. My dad has a 4-door Dakota Quad cab and I'm borrowing it all the time to haul stuff around (SUVs suck for hauling anything odd-shaped or dirty, don't honestly see hauling capacity as a justification for those if you're doing anything other than hauling groceries and small, box-sized stuff.) He's only got the standard 6 so it doesn't have gobs of power, but when I'm driving a truck I don't care about speed. And the 4-door is ideal for us since we'll probably be adding a baby to the family within the next two years and a 4-door would give much needed backseat room. I'm personally leaning toward a 4-door Tacoma since it's a little bit smaller than the Dakota, gets better gas mileage and Toyota makes probably the most reliable trucks going. It might not be the fastest thing on the road (although the V6 has plenty of gusto according to most reviews), but I really could care less. For me, it's probably the most practical thing I could buy for my needs.
