1. The bag doesn't seem too bad to me, but i take all hte grass and dump it in the woods in my back yard... my sams club paper bags are square as well, i dunno.

2. if you want the automatically adjusted speed you might want to go with one of the lower end models like the HRX217VKA, that has the cvt that changes based on your walking speed

3.why cant you use just one hand? do you mean you cant adjust the speed, and hold the throttle down with one hand?

i was torn between this honda and the toro timemaster due to the 30 inch deck, but it gets terrible reviews. the next step up for toro would be their commercial line 30 inch decks which run $1600+...

2. I think the lower HRX series with the CVT still require you to pick a speed. Similar to the HRX217HYA, I think you have to let up some on the drive handle to slow down. Do you find yourself adjusting the orange speed lever quite a bit while you mow?

3. It is hard to hold the blade lever and drive lever down, and maneuver the lawn mower, and hold a swing in the other hand.

i used to have a guy...

he'd cut it, not talk to me, and then take the clippings....

best 25 bucks ever.

yesterday i had to cut my own grass it was about 18 inches long and i had my dad over yelling about why it's important to cut it more often.

i miss my lawn guy.

mine got pretty bad, I have always mowed myself, but find myself just being worn out / not having the energy to deal with it any more.

down the block the kids started a mowing business a few years back, 4 brothers ...
Now they have fancy big zero turn radius commercial mowers and all the same stuff that the other crews have.

As an added bonus they have their own small apiary as well, and the woman buys their honey to use when she cooks .. she made some awesome ribs the other day .. ohhh so tender and tasty!

I just mowed my lawn with it. I am not sure if I am keeping or returning it.

What I don't like:
1. The bag is infuriating. The grass sticks inside of it and doesn't want to dump out. The opening is also square shaped and does not fit into the top of a paper lawn bag. I ended up having to scoop the grass out of the bag one large handful at a time. This makes the blade stop pointless since I turn the mower off each time so it isn't running while I spend three or four minutes emptying the bag.
2. The controls are awkward. It is annoying having to constantly change the orange speed control or let off on the drive lever. With my junk Toro it automatically adjusted speed based on how fast you were walking.
3. No one handed operation. I have to hold up a tire swing and glider swing with one hand while pushing the mower with the other. I couldn't do that with the Honda.

On my VYA you adjust the top speed with the dial and then you can use your thumbs to speed up or slow down by how much pressure you apply so you can use it one handed.

I got a HRX217HYA last year to replace a Toro.

I use http://www.homedepot.com/p/Leaf-Easy-Plastic-Leaf-and-Lawn-Chute-LELLCP/202491987 to aid dumping grass into bags. It makes it much easier. I also back the mower throttle down while doing so.

I'm able to hold the controls one handed while walking along the side of the mower. I hold both control levels with my entire hand, not just a thumb or couple fingers.

Thanks for the link.

I have to be able to push the mower forward and pull backward with one hand. I have to mow under the play house of this while holding a tire swing under it with one hand. I also have a green glider swing where the monkey bar is shown that I have to hold with one hand.

We just received a warning citation because we brought out to the curb a bunch of lawn refuse in trash bags. We had to transfer all of the trash bags into lawn bags and man was that a PITA. Ripped a bunch of bags. this device woulda saved us a bunch of time.

2. I only adjust the speed when i have some type of obstacles go go around, like my flower beds with weird curves, or around trees with a bunch of sticks that i'm picking up. Otherwise i have it on max speed for my straight-aways, and let go of the throttle to make turns.

3. I usually hold both the blade and drive lever down with my left hand. my right hand is free to do other things. I don't remember havign an issue with letting go of the drive lever when i need to stop and pick something up. Ill probably mow again on tuesday or wednesday and report back.

saw your post on the lawnmower forum. hopefully they can give you some more advice.

mine works the same way... but when a coworker was shopping for a new mower a year or two ago, we saw they changed it. I'm not a fan of this change, if I was shopping now, I would look closer at toro's with their speed control system.
