I purchased dell inspiron 24 7000 in july 2016, now august 28, 2017 the all-in-one does NOT turn on. I contacted dell and they told me that I need a Motherboard replacement. This device cost $1,599. I’ve GOOGLED Dell Inspiron 24 7000 series and there is countless stories about this Inferior device. Dell wants us to pay $259 + to send the device to dell to replace the one year old motherboard, or $150 for someone to come to my home and look at the device, and additional money to install a motherboard. Does anyone know a honest repairman or shop in long beach, ca 90807?

The computer in question uses a proprietary motherboard. It's not something you can just run down to the store and buy a replacement. Used boards on eBay look to be about $60 shipped. New you'd have to contact Dell directly. $260 to ship a device of that size, replace the motherboard, then ship it back isn't that bad.

Yeah, I agree with XavierMace, just pay the $260, it will be far cheaper than trying to find a local person, and if it is indeed the motherboard, the local person will most likely have double or more the costs.

prob just needs a PSU... but that's sort of the risk you run with the AIO setups.

i feel like it should still be covered under warranty though

Yeah, AIOs kind of suck that way. Not only proprietary parts (boards, PSUs, etc.), but also, if either the screen or board dies, you gotta either pay expensive repairs, or junk the whole thing.

But I thought people that bought $1600 AIO PCs, were rolling in money, no?

I don't sell AIOs (Edit: Currently. I sold a used AIO once, but it came back to me, so I just gave it away.), but I have a number of decent (custom-built) PCs in-stock and ready to ship. PM me if you want more details. I'm on the East Coast, so you would still have to mail the entire box to me for warranty work, though.

It wouldn't be hard for PC makers to build an AIO with a standard Thin-Mini ITX board, but they seem to like proprietary form factors better. My suggestion for people wanting an AIO-type machine is to VESA mount a standard SFF PC on the back of a standard monitor. This entails a few compromises sometimes, but at least it can be repaired without much fuss. Maybe next time?

Proprietary keeps people from fudging it and circumventing over priced repairs. Think of the corporations for once people!

OP, get the manual from Dells website and have a look. In my experience, the hardest part is getting the covers off.

Or post the service tag or model and one of us will see what's up.

If you need data from it, take the drive our while you have the cover off.

If you dont, then who cares, learn.

I use ebay for used Dell oem boards. They work fine for me and are cheaper than new replacements. My last dell ivy bridge board was about $20 shipped from an ebay seller. I get an occassional memory error, but that's to be expected when all four ram slots are populated. The biggest negative from dell oem boards is the 4 gb per slot ram limit, but 16 gb of ram is all most people need. And I've never had a problem flashing the bios with dell software.

I don't think "old-fashioned" adequately describes my retro- attitude on the matter of "footprint." Every time I walk into a bank, I'm well aware of the practical advantages to AiO computers. But for my own, I'd rather have a mid-tower case filled with ports and other options.

Some years back, when touch-screen monitors first became available, a local computer-repair/parts-store gave me an unsolicited demonstration for one. I couldn't imagine why I'd want to swipe my fingers across my desktop monitor, and trouble myself with cleaning the prints from it frequently. Maybe I'm just getting old . . .

The OP problems with his AIO is one of the good reasons I not will buy or recommend to others unless there is a very good use case for them.
