Hong Kong has found out treatment for SARS nearly a week

The Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, or SARS disease already infected thousands of people around the world, especially in China and HK. More and more people got infected around the world everyday, so I would like to tell you something about this disease.

The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has found out a method to test if a person is infected with SARS within 4 hours and a 95% successful rate treatment method for SARS victims. Please go here for official press release of HKU: http://www.hku.hk/uhs/he/flu/press_releases/pre_0327.pdf

Although SARS is treatable, but it doesn?t means SARS will stop infecting people throughout the world. Over here in HK we have more and more people got infected with the virus everyday. The medicine for treatment is very expensive. Even if you recovered, your lung may still be permanently damaged by this virus.

I found that news media in other country especially U.S. doesn?t report SARS. When I watch CNN, either on their Web site or on TV, they seems to only report War on Iraq every single minutes. (correct me if I?m wrong) This makes caution of people on the disease very low.

Wearing doctor mask CAN help you from being infected. You might feel yourself looks weird if you wear one while walking down the street. But I can tell you that when SARS start infecting people in your country, more and more people will wear mask on the street. Eventually you will feel yourself impolite if you don?t wear one because other people will think they might got infected by you. I know it because there are more than half of people wear it on street over here. Anyways, you shouldn?t care too much of how people look at you.

I'm glad to hear about this development. Some relatives in Asia have begun asking that my family send face masks with carbon filters to them in the mail because they are unavailable in certain parts of Asia. Schools have been closed and airplane flights are very restricted. Even the doctor who discovered this disease has passed away.

Yea But the treament is still expensive as the article says, so with people being infected that cannot afford the treament it doesnt do any good to treat just 1/3 of the population does it?

One of my roommates flew in from Taiwan last night... my other roommate went home for 2 weeks because she's worried she may catch SARS.

I think the disease is serious, but is such a precaution really necessary?

Thats why I smoke. My lungs I figure are about 95% sealed, with the tar acting as active filtration. Thus, ANY airborne particle I breathe is trapped in the tar and later purged out.

And people say smoking is bad....Yeah, well when the smokers are the only ones left after the gas n dust n disease....We'll see who's laughin then buddy!!
