horiztonal lines????

here is my sys... msi k7t pro2-a mobo with a 900mhz t-bird at 1gig. 128megs of pc-150 ram, a voodoo5 5500, sb live, 56x cdrom, dlink pci ethernet card, and a zip 8x4x32x cdrw.... now here's the prob when i did have my dvd player when watching dvd's i got purple horizontal lines through the movie. also when surfing the net i get the same horizontal lines through webpages sometimes and all gif pics. i've tried 2 diff vid cards a geforce and now my new voodoo5. i've tried diff ram and still no go.. tried all the diff versions of the 4in1 drivers and still nothing...what do you guys think? this is driving me nuts. also i had the board sent back rma thinking that might be the prob and they tested it out ok. and are now looking into my prob that i described but i also want to hear what you guys think might be the prob.oh ya i also have 2 hd's a ibm deskstar 15gig and a maxtor 17gig for mp3's and movies...

I know this sounds like a dumb idea, but try installing the latest sb live drivers. There have been problems with some of the older sb live drivers causing lines on the screen (although I think that may have been with coppermines).

umm, this is a shot in the dark but, do the problems still occur when you DON'T overclock? Something tells me your AGP port can't take the extra Mhz... <Scottie> She canna hold cap'n!</Scottie>

i was thinking that about the sb live.. cause i know i've heard probs about the card causing conflicts so i'm trading her out for a super quad aureal vortex 2.... and as far as the speed of the computer it does it while running at default speed 900mhz...

Well, unless you really want to there's no reason you HAVE to get a new soundcard. I think the latest drivers resolve the issue.

Also, before you go and trade/buy a new one, you may want to make sure that is really the problem by installing the new drivers, even if you intend to get a new sound card.

Does the problem occur with Standard PCI Display Drivers?
Do you have video bios shadow enabled in bios?
Does this problem occur with an old PCI Vid card?

Don't get the Vortex 2 card. No support.

video bios is disabled and yes it still does it with standard pci drivers.... i even d/l liveware 3.0 and still have the same prob. are there newer drivers out that resolve this issue other than the liveware 3.0 drivers???

Noooooooooooooooo, the liveware is just a bunch of crappy, useless, bloated software.

What you want is the file sblw9xup.exe from here. Edit: That's if you are using Win98.

That is the actual driver itself. If you already got that, I guess the sound card wasn't the problem after all.

This might sound like a dumb question--but did you try this machine with a different monitor? If a capacitor dries out in a monitor, you could have a lot of problems with your picture that will occur no matter what components you use to feed in the signal--problems like horizontal lines in all of your pictures.
