horrible buzzing sound: speaker problem?

had this machine now for about 8 months and while i knew of the many sound problems ppl are having i had been error-free in this field.

Last week i was listening to music and turned the "master" volume all the way up in the nforce tray options and then turned up my small 2.1 speakers more. I got this horrible buzzing sound that started and even persisted after i turned off the music [wmp9]. I had to turn off the speakers, when i turned them on again the buzzing was gone.

Today while doing nothing more strenuous that listening to music and downloading stuff [normal activity] all of a sudden the buzzing started again; it was loud but its volume was indept of the speaker volume [still there when i turned the volume dial all the way down]; changing volume and even muting in tray options had no effect.

The only way to make it go away was to turn my speakers off for a minute or so and then when i turned them on again all was fine.

What is the likely culprit?

Sounds like EM (Electromagnetic) interference. Put your speakers and sub away from anything else that's electrical, like your monitor, microwave, refrigerator, and the like. That's all I can think of.
