Horrid 3DMark05 with eVGA 6800

No, I know exactly why you are asking. I have a off-brand 550W right now. But I plan on upgrading to a OCZ ModStream 520W very soon. The fact that is lacking in the juice department would explain the lack of performance (an perhaps my artifacting on unlocking?)

I have the same card and when i started to oc it with stock cooler my first run of tests would run nice scores were nice 3572 before oc 4273 when oced to 390/815 then after unlocking the pipes my scores are now in 4700 range.. thats 3dmark 05 btw in 03 i score about 11k usually.. anyways more to the point after running those tests a second or 3rd time i got huge decreases in my score i think i was scoring like 2600 in 3dmark 05.. point being the stock cooling isnt very good on this card after i put the zalman 700vf alcu my scores stay stable. then after raising the multiplier to 12 on my system my scores started to go down again.. i did notice way more heat after that, i turned it down and everything is fine now.. i think its ur video card memory overheating and causing ur low scores. Have u tried taking the side of ur case and seeing if that helps? oh and what kind of psu do u have 550w is high but if its a generic psu that could aslo be ur problem. I really thjink heat is ur problem.. seeing as how just the ambient heat made my card do the exact same thing urs is doing the zalman heatsinks decrase ur mem temps by about 15 percent u should look into getting that cooler, it helps alot

Windows can only take advantage of 1 GB of ram? I guess those tests with BF2 paired with 1 and 2 GB of ram were completely bogus then...

Hmm, it's not the proc or ram what other people have said. I ran 3dmark05 on my old p4 2.4 400mhz fsb with 512 mb ram and a 6800 nu and pulled right around low 3000s. There's something definitely wrong.

I don't have any other ideas, but what brand is that power supply? Even though it's 550w, it might be some generic pos that can't power the card right. However, I doubt that's the problem.

it has to be heat.. cause i know i run mine, pipes and shader unlocked oced to 390/815 with the psu that came with the case i got a really crappy 400w.. like i said before its heat causing the issue. Go to nvidia and download the unfied driver those are u motherboard/chipset drivers

That 550W IS A POS. I know of what you speak, they could put "feather weight" as one of the many features of it, always a great thing That OCZ should be much more solid. What kind of motherboard do you have? Go to the vendor website, and they should have the newest ones there under your mobo model.

I've got the best Socket 478 motherboard ever made, the ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe (I wasn't kidding). I update some of the chipset drivers from Intel (for the 875P chipset), but I still can't find these motherboard drivers everyone is talking about.

chipset drivers are what everyone is talking about, unfortunatly... make sure that AA & AF is disabled and you are running in quality mode... check the clockspeed using the coolbits registry trick... what temps are you running on the vid card?

Wat is AA (antialiasing) and AF(anisotropic filtering)? and what do they do?

for example i kno dat vsync increases fps in vid games. wat do the two above do?

Windows, by itself, MAY only need 1GB, although technically the OS alone can utilize 2GB of mem, in its 32bit iteration.

Any application in Windows can potentially utilize 2GB of mem space. And it's not only the scientific/enginerring/CAD of the world, BF2 has a footprint of >1GB easily.
