This is a re-post of sorts. I am reposting this deal because the original was posted several weeks ago, and this deal is still hot. I know lots of folks never saw it. Our family now has four accounts with e-rice.net and all of them have been running perfectly. If you want to read the original thread, including the worried moaning from burned cyberwhackers, it can be read here: http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview.cfm?catid=40&threadid=905026http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=18&threadid=122246 ...and NO I am not in any way affiliated with e-rice.net, and have not even been in communication with them on a regular basis. I do sincerely believe this is a good deal for folks who want cheap non-commercial websites with no popups, banner ads or advertising.
I have been working with e-rice.net to set up a tiny commercial account for a business my wife is building a web page for: Stitching Memories . This is in addition to the 3 free accounts that they had given me, my wife and my son in their early days. The free accounts are gone, but the entry level hosting account is only $10/year! You get a 7 day free trial, too, with no payments until the 7 days are up and you are satisfied.
The story is that the owner is leasing a rackshack server, and merely wants to sell enough accounts to cover most of his costs. This is not a CyberWacks scam as far as I can tell.
My account has been up for a couple months, and my downtime in that period has been a matter of a few minutes only, according to my website uptime tracking service. Also, there is an easy "whole website backup" function built in to the admin console, so you can never lose more than your $10 even if they did go belly up! Do let me warn you though, that if you are a really high maintenance type of person, he will probably give you your $10 back and tell you to get lost - at least I would - so be warned. He has offered us fantastic customer service for our accounts, but for $10 a year he can only legitimately spend so much time on each account, so if you are unreasonably demanding or rude, I would suggest you go with one of the "big boys" for hosting.

Hope this is helpful to some of you folks who want a decent website without investing a lot of cash into it. Of course you will need a domain name (www.whateverurlyouwant.com) too. I got mine for $8 or $9 a year at http://www.godaddy.com.
Further explanation for the folks who fell prey to cyberscum: I have absolutely no connection whatsoever to E-rice.net or the owner except that he had given myself, my wife and my son each freebie accounts, and we also have the above mentioned semi-commercial site on there which we paid $9.99 a year for. After my first post here several weeks ago the owner offered to do something nice for me because the posting brought in some new business, and I politely declined. The only reason I am posting this is because I sincerely believe it is an excellent deal (but keep your site backed up just in case), and the owner seems really nice compared to many "cheap but no service" hosts out there.
Please direct all deal bashing, thread crapping, and ignorantly negative off-the-cuff responses to http://www.go-away.com.
