Holy crap whoever posted about hostonce thankyou! That is the best damn deal I've ever seen!!!! UNLIMITED! Amazing! kick ass im getting in on that UNLIMTED SPACE AND BANDWITH 4.95/month doesnt get better than that!

Do a search on webhostingtalk.com. Seems alot of people are quite unhappy with the company. Personally I've been on Malinus.com and have been very happy so far, although it has its share of problems. Haven't really heard anything about e-rice.net, but it seems like it could be a pretty decent deal.

I also saw a few (very) unhappy Manlius.com customer posts on WHT as well, especially the Resellers.

Yep, guess I've been one of the lucky ones with Malinus. Hell, go Dixiesys!

I've been pretty lucky w/ manlius as well... although i only use it for email at the moment (will be working on a new site soon).

I signed up with e-rice.net in November. Never a problem, replies to posts on the forums fairly promptly. I caught mysql down for ~ 20 minutes one night around New Year's Day, otherwise have yet to have a problem.

Don't know how it's so cheap, but I always keep a backup of everything anyway.

Selecting a host is similar to buying power tools:

If you are buying tools for a one time project and may never use it again, then by all means get a black and decker set or some of those tools at the local flea market I like to call disposable tools. If on the other hand you are using these tools for your trade or plan to take up woodworking as a serious hobby, you might want to go with, makita, dewalt, porter cable, milwaukee etc.
If you stick with the name brands you know to be proven you wont be dissapointed, but on the other hand you could get lucky with a new manufacturer just getting started out that may offer a similar quality for a much cheaper price (not likely).
So the moral to my story is; if you dont really care about performance, customer service, reliability, features etc. then by all means find the cheapest host out there.
I may pay a little more than whats posted here, but when I contact my host with a request or a question it is dealt with promptly and professionally.
I have tried a few of the cheaper hosts and was disappointed and pissed off at several for the attitude they display. Dixiesys techs were the most rude I have met so far. They actually were responding finally to a help ticket a month or so old when I had already long since moved the account.
Also had a moderator tell me ...point of fact... no rebuttal accepted that the zend powered logo meant that zend optimizer was installed (incorrect)
end of rant..

This makes sense. If you want to buy a hosting account where you are going to do ecommerce, or use it in a "must always be up" situation, you would not want to go with *any* cheap hosting service.

Then this makes no sense. This is assumes that a cheap host will be rotten. In the case of e-rice, no one has EVER reported a problem with "performance, customer service, reliability, features etc." So while you may want to buy the best for something that is vital, you are probably throwing money away if your site is not vital. I myself just purchased my second commercial account from e-rice. The setup was a bit tricky (3 domain names pointing to one account) and they held my hand all the way, no problems!! Still the best and cheapest as far as I'm concerned.

I have no idea what you are talking about.

Montyburns, I signed up through them the other day and so far so good. I'm just waiting for my email to propogate over and then I think everything should be good from there. I'm very new to this and wanted something cheap that I could test out till I'm ready for a "real" web host. The person that actually referred me has had them for awhile and has had great things to say about them.

I Signed up with e-rice.net after reading this message board. Its about one month now,
I am happy with the service.
I do not monitor the up time etc.
But I primarily use it for family emails and its cool. I mean setting accounts, space ,GUI based admin tools.

Tech support is email based, and he usually answers quickly.

One thing I I feel its required in the service is SSH based email and CGI scripts(PHP based pages are supported currently),but for the
price its really cool.

So far no spam mails coming to my inbox.

I would also consider RippleHost.com before going with e-rice.net

I think that's a good deal Rossman, but the E-Rice has a little more to offer for just five more dollars a month. I think the Ripplehost is good though for someone who doesn't want to waste a whole lot of money and would like to toy with having a website.

BTW, seems as both site admins for Erice and Ripplehost are named Alan Think they're the same people?

Good catch but no they are not the same person, this was already asked on RippleHost.com's forums.
