Hosted Exchange Recommendations?

Currently with Apptix and HATE their customer service - which is not only atrocious but RUDE.
Can anyone recommend any alternative hosted exchange providers that are any good.
Definitely want to move our company away, due to their rudeness.

After our experiences with BPOS I would avoid them. I believe Intermedia is our preferred hosted Exchange partner now.

We use 123together and it has been pretty good for us, we have around 200 users with them.

yeah run your own box - that way you control your sensitive data and have no storage or bandwidth limits.

Talked to godaddy and was very impressed with the customer service (they have also been great when we moved our website hosting there). Price wise they seem hard to beat.

Biggest issue I see now: how to migrate some 20GB of exchange data to a new provider. Uploading from a PST does not sound like a good idea.

That's pretty much the only way to do it if you're switching hosts.

Be sure that they set you up on a newer Exchange 2010 server instead of 2007, to avoid having to do a complete re-upload when it comes time to upgrade...

We just used http://www.migrationwiz.com/Public/Default.aspx to move another agency into our system. They had an in house exchange system and we use 123together hosted exchange. The migration was very easy.

It worked great. We just set up a split domain on the hosted system, added accounts for all their users on the hosted system, told the migration tool which account on their system went to which account on ours and then let it do its magic. After it finished we gave their users alias addresses using their company domain and changed records to point to our hosted servers. Waited 2 days and ran the migration tool a second time just to make sure nothing went to their system and might have been missed between the migration tool finishing and the records being updated. It moves email, calendar, contacts, tasks, everything.

I was told (i) you get 4GB per mailbox which you can allocate as you want, eg one mailbox with 1GB and one with 7GB, and (ii) that they charge $12/year per additional GB above your total allocation.

For us it is a ton, we have every optional service you can think of, everything from automatic encryption for compliance, to activsync, BES, sharepoint, auto archiving and 25GB mailboxes for every user.

It's expensive for my clients also, but I remind them of the comparative cost of hiring someone to manage an in-house exchange server. Hardware, software license fees, maintenance, backups, upgrades, upgraded data pipe, compliance archiving, not to mention the IT person's salary... it all adds up very fast.

Now all of a sudden $20-30/month per user doesn't seem like such a bad deal at all...

In our case, we currently have 15 mailboxes and 2 resource mailboxes hosted at Apptix. Most mailboxes are around 1GB of data or less. One user has around 4GB of data. Due to the horribly experience with Apptix, we want to move somewhere else, eg Godaddy.
How would MigrationWiz move the mailbox contents from Apptix to Godaddy? I assume we would set up dummy accounts at Godaddy, you log into the apptix accounts and then download/upload contents from there to godaddy, and then we officially switch the email hosting for the domain to godaddy?
How long does it take per GB of data to transfer and how long would you expect our transfer to take?

I have about a couple hundred mailboxes, so I manage our exchange server and I just switched our front ends over to Postini/Google with 10 year retention with access to full mailbox if exchange goes down in the back end. It is $52 a year per user 25GB storage. Its cheaper for 1 year retention. But this gives us pretty much disaster recovery to boot. I am about to work with another company that is going to help us upload all our old email to google so all our present email is online. Now that is based on storage and we have just under 400 gbs.

Pretty much. You set up the real accounts at Godaddy, just don't update records to their servers. You tell the migrationwiz tool the accounts on your old system and which account on the new system they should be mapped to and it should copy all the mail/calendars/contacts to them. Then depending on how much bandwidth each system has it will be either really fast or could take a while. I just moved 160GB over night, so it can do it pretty quickly. After it moves everything update your records to the new host company and then run the migration tool one more time to get anything that might have been delivered to the old system after the 1st run.
