For you guys above arguing about what Hostess paid their union workers I can tell you that a friend of mine belonged to the Teamsters making $44k/year working 17 hours a day doing deliveries. He had a awesome health plan though; also agreed to two pay cuts to help 'save' his job.

Why didn't he go somewhere else? Take a look at the unemployment numbers... Plus there's not too many jobs were you can get that many hours.

you can blame the workers only so much.

the buck stops where? at the top. the guys at the top gave themselves raises...massive raises. you really don't have to go any further on finding blame for incompetence at that point. they were looting the company, bad faith all the way.

as many comedians have already pointed out, in a country as fat as ours, if you can't make money selling fattening food you are doing something horribly wrong. even more so when pot is being essentially legalized in many states as well

the cuts proposed weren't a small thing, they were gutting their workers compensation and benefits.

Word is they wanted more bonuses before liquidation.

The raises weren't massive at all. The raises that everyone is bitching about were to split across more than 15 people, and many of them were working for a very, very, very modest executive salary. After taxes, even the largest benefactor was only going to get close to $120K, and he was getting a $1 salary. I've made that much in a year as a salesmen for a small company. I would NEVER EVER EVER try and run a multibillion dollar corp for only $120k a year. Wouldn't be worth the stress and sacrifice.

doesn't matter, at that level, if you take such a salary its to dodge taxes or you just have enough money already, in any case they weren't doing good enough a job to merit any bonus. the results speak for themselves.

Bought some twinkies and they aren't all that great. The twinkies craze made me buy them and I remember them being better than this. They are greasy and have a funny taste. There's probably 20 other snack cakes I'd eat before these. No wonder they went out of business.

Yer not doin it right. You gotta brown it on a skillet with some butter and then put a scoop of vanilla on it.

More companies need to do this to send a message to both the unions and the morons who think unions are a good thing. My message to both...sympathy is in the dictionary between shit and syphilis. All union employees should starve to death because they made way too much money for unskilled labor and drove prices through the roof. Did I mention I don't care?

I pretty much think this is how Hostess felt after watching their company circle the drain for so many years only to get stiffed by the unions at the worst time.
