No, all of your data was NOT deleted. We provided you with a FULL backup of your site when you decided to come into our live chat room and tell us that after 4 years you were unhappy, had no backups of your own and confirm that you hadn't paid in a year - but still wanted to host with us.

I'm VERY confused. But thank you for the warning that you were coming here to make this post.

No. This had been paid for, and I have paypal reciepts to prove it.

Nice try on the owner to try to slam a customer.

Btw, IF I hadnt been paying (I have), what does that say about your billing department?

A "FULL" backup of my sql information would have included: User Information, Billing Details, Product Listings, etc. You gave me a 1k sql file, and you said that was all you had backed up.

What kinda webhost only information backed up for 24 hours?

When you DID open the ticket, your comment was "with this you can go f**k yourself" ... Did you want us to help you?

Momma always told me, it's easier to catch flies with honey.

As for the billing, I will not get into particulars here in the public forum, but in a public chat, with other customers around, you yourself posted:

<Necro420> 10/12/07
<Necro420> 10/13/07
<Necro420> 11/11/07
<Necro420> 12/10/07
<Necro420> 08/26/08

Those were your payment dates (they should have been monthly). As you can see, there's quite a gap in your payment history. (For the record, I never even considered "not paying" as a reason not to assist you - the only reason I looked was to offer you a refund, or credit to your account for the inconvenience you incurred.) Yes, our billing department missed your non-payments - it happens, occasionally, especially with customers that were migrated from the old billing system.

Now, even after your "go F**k yourself comment, ANOTHER copy of your database is available, if you'll ask for it like an adult, via our helpdesk system.

LOL

Sounds like a case of "I'm a dumbass and want to blame a company for my own negligence."

I was going to say, Joe seems to usually be pretty helpful. Their contact with customers could use a little work (eg, the latest move I never got an update on the "completed" part, and the wrong server was listed), but they have a forum they rely on that I honestly slack at looking at. But that's because my sites aren't critical, and I'm paying dirt cheap, can't have it all--I know what to expect. And they are one of the few hosts that uses DA, I love that, heh.

While I recognize that a private company can pick and choose who it's clients are (assuming they're not desperate for business), it seems extremely unprofessional for HostPC.com to withhold a customer's data just because they're rude.

That being said, NecroSaro420 does look like a huge idiot.

While I like HostPC's prices and my websites seem pretty responsive, I don't like how I had to move over my own stuff to a new server when I upgraded hosting plans. I always figured that was the sort of thing the host would do - but maybe I'm wrong.

Oh, I also love the unlimited domains per hosting account thing. Really handy.

You never asked Marc about your data, you asked Joe about it hours earlier. Then you slapped a customer around with trout in the support channel with a message saying that it wasn't polite. IMO that should have gotten you banned the first time - they let you back in after that one. So what did you REALLY do to get yourself banned from the channel? It's certainly not the way you described it here. You really shouldn't do stuff with witnesses if you're going to try to post like you've been wronged. Chat room logs are a wonderful thing.

Anyone ever wonder if hosts keep a "beware of this customer" list?

Who the hell uses an irc channel as an official support medium for a business???
Thats extremely unprofessional and lame.

My company uses Teamspeak as a means of support. Does that mean we're unprofessional too?

Honestly, the more ways a company can make them accessible to their customers the better. Since they are a hosting company I'm sure running an IRC channel costs them maybe a few dollars per year in resources.

Same here.

Only time it was ever unavailable was when I lost my CC and forgot to change over to the new number at hostpc's website.

I closed my paypal once and forget I was using that to pay hostpc. Knocked out my site at a time I really needed it. Put in an urgent ticket, got an quick email response. I explained my screwup. They said it would normally take a few days... they had me going again within an hour. Very excellent customer service.

slaped with a trout? What does that mean? There was Joe, Marc, another mod and another user there that had not said a word the entire night. I said in the channel that this customer support is horrible after there has been no resolution

Man, you're really asking for it, aren't you? There were many others in the channel. I guess I'm the one who had not said a word the entire night. Hanging around I learn things. Or is there something wrong with a support channel where the company lets their customers watch and ask questions and learn? You were there all night long too.

But let's go back. The channel states clearly that it is usually monitored from 7am to 10pm Eastern time. If you don't get a response, you should use the help desk if you have a problem. I've found the forums also extremely helpful for finding information.

You showed up at 10:50 ET last night asking about a problem. Joe responds within a minute that your site is currently being transferred per the message you stated you did receive when you came in. After a few minutes you inform him the backup is not what it should be. You want him to use an older file. He tells you the backup from a week earlier is also the same. Joe states very clearly that your database is crashed on the old server. Your site was not working before the transfer. He does a mysql server dump from your site:

>>[22:29] (@Joe): mysqldump: Got error: 145: Table './necro420_repro2/isc_system_log' is marked as crashed
>>[22:30] (Necro420): so what does that mean
>>[22:30] (@Joe): [root@www504 config]# mysqldump -unecro420_repro2 -pdecker420 necro420_repro2>/root/necro_repro2.sql
>>[22:30] (@Joe): mysqldump: Got error: 145: Table './necro420_repro2/isc_system_log' is marked as crashed and should be repaired

Then you tell him use a backup from a month ago you don't care you just need the information back. Then you rant:

>>[22:31] (Necro420): do you realise how many thousands of dollars this is going to cost me?
>>[22:31] (Necro420): I have had NOTHING but problems with your service ever since I started using it
>>[22:31] (@Joe): if you've got thousands of dollars in this site, surely you have a backup, right?
>>[22:31] (Necro420): no, thats what I pay you for
>>[22:32] (Necro420): ever since Ive started using your service, its either outages, nothing but slow responces etc

Joe goes in to process a REFUND for you - and discovers that you haven't been paying for your service. Here's the log:

>>[22:40] (Necro420): 10/12/07
>>[22:40] (Necro420): 10/13/07
>>[22:40] (Necro420): 11/11/07
>>[22:40] (Necro420): 12/10/07
>>[22:40] (Necro420): 08/26/08
>>[22:40] (@Joe): you can login to your server, generate a backup - that'll have all the files in it.
>>[22:40] (@Joe): when you're done, I'll cancel your account so you can find a host that better suits your needs.
>>[22:41] (Necro420): it doesnt have all of my information, since you hvae seem to lost my databases
>>[22:46] (Necro420): if we can get this issue resolved with the databases, ill gladly pay whatever payments are missing

and Joe says

>>[22:47] (@Joe): that's not an option at this point, sorry. The link to download your backup is in a private message box
>>[22:48] (Necro420): is this backup from right now, or the 24 hour ago one?
>>[22:48] (@Joe): it's a combination of ALL the data we have, as I said
>>[22:50] (@Joe): I can't understand why, you'd say "<Necro420> ever since Ive started using your service, its either outages, nothing but slow responces etc" then say "<Necro420> if we can get this issue resolved with the databases, ill gladly pay whatever payments are missing" That makes no sense to me.
>>[22:50] (@Joe): I certainely don't want to force you into staying with a company that has provided you such terrible service (at no cost for many months) - so perhaps it's time we go our seperate ways.
>>[22:53] (Necro420): because its just a pain in the ass to move several sites over to a new host

Not worth the time or money to you.

>>[23:08] (Necro420): after this is done downloading and I verify that the stuff is still there, can you please delete my sites off your server, a friend of mine that I refered here for cheap information tried to make my .com on his account so that I could put up a message stating that the sites would be back online soon, but it said the domain already exists
>>[23:09] (@Joe): submit a ticket when you're ready, we've got a lot of people waiting for assistance tonight ... we'll reply through the ticket.

Then nothing. Until

>>[00:28] (@Joe): has your download finished Necro420 ?

Now remember, these are CENTRAL times - that's 1:28AM EASTERN time for HostPC.

>>[00:41] (Necro420): yep, but the .sql file for necro420_repro2 is only a 1k file and not a normal size sql backup file

An hour later you write:

>>[01:35] (Necro420): could you send me that 2.2m .sql file

and later

>>[02:25] (Necro420): .
>>[02:28] (Necro420): ok, please email me the 2.2m sql file or upload it to a site and send me the link to [edited out email - sorry didn't catch it] Thanks

At 8 in the morning the staff is back working.

At 10:20 a customer comes in looking for assistance and is being helped by staff. In the middle of that conversation you say,

>>[10:23] (Necro420): Hello Joe could you please send me my sql files so I can complete my move

Well, Joe's not the one helping the customer and that staff member continues to help the person. What happens next?

>>[10:31] Necro420 slaps [customer] around a bit with a large trout
>>[10:31] Necro420 was kicked by marc (Not polite!)
>>[10:31] Necro420 has joined #support

That customer, after being helped, thanked the staff and then said

>>[10:46] (customer): and necro, don't be a douche.

What happened after that I don't know. There was NOT A WORD posted by you, and only this in the channel:

>>[10:52] *** [#support] Banned- Necro420
>>[10:52] *** Necro420 was kicked by marc (Thank you for your consideration. Please refer all future requests through the help desk.)

If you'll re-read the thread, we never withheld the clients data - even after non payment ... we've given him several options (publically) to get it.

That's ONE option ... customers have the option of email, helpdesk, live chat with techs, etc. This is merely the avenue the OP decided to address the issue in.

I know you HostPC folks want to defend your actions, but might not want to put up a customer's email address from the IRC logs, as public as it might have been initially.

lol @ slapping another customer with a trout

anyway im not sure after looking at the end of that chat log if mirc is the best method for customer service. Marc was still handling customers in a single threaded fashion, so he might as well use instant messaging or something. marc should have at least said "joe is away" or something like that

I'd say she has to be if she's posting information about the OPs account.

Necro was being an ass, but it's unprofessional IMO to come on here and get into a public fight over it, especially when they begin posting his communications and contact info.

I'm not an employee. These are all public support channel chat logs.

Oh going back and reading. Marc wasn't the employee who was helping the other customer. I hadn't seen Marc say anything in all of this.

What information did I put in that I shouldn't have?
