Learning to block websites using the HOSTS file in Windows XP Pro. I have read that to efficiently block a website you should have, for example, www.myspace.com and myspace.com; is this true? Also, do I have to list: home.myspace.com, profile.myspace.com, vids.myspace.com, etc?
My main goal is to block any social networking, flash games, messenging, streaming media, and downloading sites. Any websites you suggest on blocking?
Is it possible to use the HOSTS file to block the execution of certain files? I know I can run gpedit.msc and make rules to prevent the execution of certain named files but all it takes is renaming the file and the user can still run the file. At the company I work at the employees have to be 'power users' because of the main program we use. Being a 'power user' it still gives them the ability to install programs but not all. Suggestions?
Thanks.
