<< I have good news and bad news.

Now the bad news. As someone else said earlier, the pictures this camera takes has vertical strips running down the entire frame. Also they are blurry and the colors are not very saturated. All in all the quality is crap. My 4 year old Samsung VGA camera takes better pictures. I'm using high res and the best quality setting.

I said that hehe, but I found that it only happens when there isn't enough light, try it outside or use flash. Sometimes they are not very vivid, sometimes it just looks bad. You can use some filters to get rid of them tho.

Take a look at the computer monitor pic posted by someone, there are vertical lines there too if you look carefully (the big one). The other 4 pics were resized so you can't really tell but they are there in 1 or 2 pic ( I took them lol).

take a look at the 2 pics, one with flash and you can see no lines, and the other one without flash and vertical lines everywhere.

Go here for pics

I have got the camera to work with PhotoImpression (software included with camera). I haven't had any problems with it up to now. I can tell you one thing is that I alwasy have the camera and USB cord connected and powered up BEFORE I turn on the PC and it powered down AFTER the PC is off. My Win98SE had a lot of difficulty once I started unplugging/plugging and powering on/off the camera while the PC was on. Also, in PhotoImpression, have you tried to click on the "Submit All" button in the little window that comes up after you click on the "Aquire" button? Let me know how it goes.

I am really bummed. My first 3 photos came out really well. Now, I notice a lot of dead pixels that are red, blue, whatever...I could see the pixels on the LCD as well.

Can this problem be fixed?

For anyone interested, they have a no-name 128 MB Compact Flash card for $39.99 at Bay Area Fry's with a 1 year warranty. Works fine with this camera (it gives you about 179 shots).

The pictures look good when they are tiny, like the posted ones, but if you look at them anywhere near 100% they don't. Even in the posted ones you can see the vertical bars.

just scored one at the Sunrise Mall Macy's here in Sacramento

So what's the verdict folks? is it a keeper? I don't have trouble connecting it to my computer, its just that REconnecting it after unplugging it is hell... i have to restart my computer to get it recognized again... i'm using WinXP... anyone else know how to solve the problem? (i tried the instructions in this earlier post and it recognizes it but not after i unplug it and plug it back in)

My impression so far:
Outdoor pics look much better than indoor ones. Nevertheless, nothing spectacular.
I think what someone said about batteries refreshing RAM might be true. After taking around 20 pics (10 with LCD on) the batteries are about to die

Jut a few pics and I get low batt. warning...
Back to Macy's.
Thanks anyway for the post. This cam might work for someone.
Seem to be another case of getting what you pay for.
On the plus side...
It is worth the trip back just to through the tunnel of love (cosmetic area).
The employees have the charm turned up to 11.

well okay this sucker is eating batteries like crazy... just popped in 4 new batteries and as soon as i turn on the flash it reads low battery already

plus the internal memory stopped saving so i bought a Compact Flash card and it started saving again.

new batteries, plus the compact flash card, might have to get rechargables instead, and a battery charger... way more than i intended on spending on this camera

this sucker is going back tomorrow. you get what you pay for i suppose

All digital cameras should be used with NiMh rechargeable batteries. 20 pictures on alkalines is very normal for all cameras and using flash and lcd alot can make that even less. The backup battery also needs to be fresh. 1600 mah rated AA batteries should work very well and they last even longer after they have been cycled 4 or 5 times.

hmmm internal memory is SDRAM, which is volatile. This would mean there has to be constant current refreshing, isn't it??

someone earlier mentioned something about that.... that's probably what eats the batteries like no other

Well, the first one dropped the red CCD. I opened the second one and it doesn't work at all.

The Macy's in Santa Ana is out, but they said the one at South Coast Plaza still has a bunch, so I'm going to try to exchange them. Sigh.

So where in the store are you guys finding these things (so I know when I go by later???) I know one of you said it was in the perfume section of all places! I think our Macy's still has a little gadgets area. Hopefully it's up there (and hopefully they still have some.) I just need a cheap little digital camera for snapshot (not printing) purposes so this might fit nicely.

Great starter camera. They had one left at the galleria at Tyler in Riverside. Looks new works like a charm.

Why are all the really good deals these days at b&m's that aren't in St. Louis? It seems that more and more often the better deals are at b&m's as opposed to online....

So is this camera any good to buy ?
as what i read from others experience, it eats up lot of battery life for the inbuilt ram (SDRAM).

what about if u use an external memory card ? with rechargeable batteries ?

is it worth buying it ?
