OK, went down to the Macy's store and the salesdweeb at the housewares and small electrics gave me the "why do you want to waste my time" rundown when I gave him the UPC # and sent me on my way. I then wandered around to see if it was anywhere, gave up and was stepping out of the store when, lo and behold, i spotted it on a perfume and makeup counter amidst lipstick and eye shadow! They had 5 or 6 along with a KODAK mp3/camera (forget the model).

Has a plasticky feel to it. Loaded up the batteries in the parking lot and took a couple of pictures on the way back home. Software install and usability is a snap (they have XP drivers on their webpage). Initial reaction: OK pictures. Definitely 1.3 Mpixel (no jaggies at 1024x768 or a massaged look). Color balance was off (don't know if it was the camera or my picture taking). Will experiment with it some more but I think I'll keep it as a cheapo second camera. Can't go wrong for $45+tax.

According to the 800# only the west coast stores have the digital camera. The east coast stores will tell you they don't even sell cameras.

Well I got one at the downtown macy's, you have to give the cashier the upc # and ask him/her to check in the back for you. The computer didn't show any but they have them hehe. The cashier told me that they have 12 at arden fair..

Ok here are some specs for the camera. No optical zoom, VGA quality 2x digital zoom. Has 3 qulity options: best, better, good. and 2 picture options, VGA or 1.3 mega pixels. Obiously the best + 1.3 mega pixels will yield the best picture quality. Comes with batteries and usb cable. Looks kinda cheezy. 1.5 LCD screen, not that big.

If you give me some space I can post some pics.

well I sent some pics to someone who will host them. The maximum is 1248*960*24b. but the quality is not that good as there are some vetical lines scattered throughtout the pic. Judge them by yourselve when they are posted. I think it is the compress scheme that they used. The camera is made in taiwan btw.

<< i've only seen one digital cam ever at macy's....

that crappy 3-in-1 cam/vid cam/mp3 player.... for $89.99.... $35 after purchase....

this seems way too good to be true.

By the way.... does anyone know any site besides e-pinions that gives reviews and stuff like that? thanks.

Not bad picture quality. Great for a $45 camera. What's the max res for it? 1024x768?

Not all phone numbers may be up to date, they came from an older list. Most stores seem to be keeping these in the home department, or the mens department. Your best bet is to call the store and ask them if they know about the camera, and if they dont ask them to check their inventory with the item locator. If they find it, have them hold it for you, dont waste a trip hoping they will have it. Chances are that most wont even know they carry this item, and its burried in the backstock. If you get an unhelpful associate, call back to a diffrent department, or at a differnet time of day. You might ask to speak with the manager, as they have a better idea of their promotional items, such as this, it is a leftover from christmas, originally listed for 159.99. There is also a coupon avaiable in the presidents day flyer, that will get you either 10-20% off, if you purchase it between Feb. 13-18. Or buy it today and you will have 10 days to get an adjustment. The flyer should be avaiable in the gift wrap department upon request.

In the meantime, I will try and secure as many of these as I can find in my store and locally. Let me know how this deal works out for you.

I just went through the same crap on my win2k laptop but finally got it to work. Here's what you do:

1) Remove the USB cable (if connected) and run the setup program (1.8meg file that you downloaded from their website) and click on uninstall to remove the previous drivers, but don't remove the applications that you installed off of the CD, leave them installed.

2) Now reboot your computer and make sure the USB cable is still UNPLUGGED. When your system boots back up you need to run the install program again (the new one off the website) and when it is finished you need to re-boot once more.

3) When your system has fully booted to the desktop you can now plug in the USB cable, with the camera turned on. Windows will find the camera and prompt you to install it. Since you've all ready loaded the drivers in step 1 you can now step through the install wizard as it finds the drivers and sets up the camera. At this point I re-booted once again but I don't think it was necessary.

Now you should be able to click on the "veo capture" icon located on your desktop and choose "download and manage pictures". After the app loads you can click on the "aquire" button and you should start to see your pictures download from the camera.

If you follow these steps you won't have a problem, just make sure you don't have the USB cable plugged in until the very last step (3)and that you re-boot between steps.

101 of these at Del Amo Mall! That's down the street from me. I had been wanting to get a really good camera someday, but I think I'll get this for now. One thing that I noticed is that you can get an optional AC adapter from them. It's $17.00 delivered at http://www.veoproducts.com/purchase.htm They also give the specifications, so I guess you could pick up a universal adapter somewhere. The AC adapter let's you use it as a webcam without eating up batteries.

Techdreamer, camera says it is a 6V DC input for the transformer but doesn't give the polarity. If someone figures it out, please post. That would save some money by going with a generic Rat Shack or other transformer.
