This is usually $70, even the rare 75% off is $17.50 (like Steam right now)

Totally worth $1 even to just dink around with it. Steam has a free weekend right now if you want to give it a try.

There are higher tiers too, up to you if you feel like paying/donating more.

My son enjoys this... I picked it up for him for a birthday preset about a year ago and I'm still waiting to see what he cranks out. And yes, he works on it regularly.

Going to pick up humble copies for my daughters (and me) as well.

Nice! The included games are nice throwback to the 16-bit era. Not sure I would have the patience to create anything though.

Odd, it looks like my last post disappeared. I mentioned VX Ace is the newest and supports 64bit OS while the older XP version is 32bit only. There are other differences as well, but I don't wanna do another write up.

Could almost buy gift copies to sell/trade. It's weird that newest version is the name your price and the old version in the higher tier.

My research indicates that XP is preferred by some people because it has a better interface for making maps.

My son had me get him VX last year, and has a whole "development team" working for him - artists, even a musician recording original music for his games. I bought the $12 tier for him and myself - for him, he gets a ton of content he can use immediately - and for myself, I can help him out with the scripting stuff he wants to learn.

I might also knock out a game for gits and shiggles.

XP is supposed to be better for scripting too, but I've never done it so I dunno. Also heard the XP version is easier to port to android (but I dont have a phone/android so I dunno there either).

Problem is the 32bit limitation. Last computer I had with 32bit was from 2006 and it's no longer operational.

Still I went for the full deal cause I could. I really like Humble, especially for the payment options. I can't buy from the other "bundlers" because I refuse to support Paypal. Many times I just like goofing around with map/level editors. There were some random games mixed in I'll be trying too.

This is SICK for $1. VX Ace caught my eye a while ago, and even though I won't spend a ton of time with it, I'll be glad to have it in my library.

For those wondering... basically this lets you (fairly easily) make Final Fantasy type games out of the box. If you get more proficient with the scripting engine, you can make some fairly intricate RPG's that differ from the classic JRPG mold.

For $1, it's a no-brainer. Like the OP says, the cheapest it ever goes on sale for is about $10-15 bucks, and even $1 comes with some DLC.

For $12 to get pretty much all of the DLC plus the Game Character Hub tool, when it's on sale on Steam you'd be paying pretty much about $50+ just for all the DLC packs.

I'm planning on doing a little workshop with my kids on programming with this this summer.

I thought about buying this but I don't know that I would ever make a game. great deal though.

edit: ended up buying it since it was cheap.
is there a good tutorial somewhere because I have no idea what I am supposed to do with it, haha.

There are probably numerous tutorial videos on YouTube. My son got this last year and started getting stuff going pretty quickly.

$12 gets all of the items on the page?

Once I buy, can I sit on the codes as long as I want before unlocking from steam or whatever?

What do people need, ie should I buy, to allow people to play any game I created?

It creates an EXE you can give to other people (they do not need anything else). The $12 tier basically gives you a ton of extra resources in the form of music, tilesets and character sprites. Game Character Hub also makes it easier to throw together your own characters and organize the graphical assets.

...and yes, the "keys" are individual and you can sit on them or gift individual items to other people.

But is it one payment of $12 to get all the items in all the tiers, not Chinese menu style one from A, one from B?

Do people need anything special to play the game you create?

$12 gets you everything listed, as individual items you can activate into Steam or gift to others. Some of the content is also downloadable DRM-free (Not RPGMaker VX, XP or Game Character Hub).

As I said, when you create a game with RPGMaker, it is a self-contained game. You can send somebody the EXE (there might be some associated data files) and it just works for them. There are a TON of RPGs on Steam, both greenlit and waiting for greenlight, that were made with these tools. Some are quite good and have sold well.
