Hey Xenio,

As much as I'd love to let you use the promo code or give you a discount
on another year, that's not something that I can do. I'm terribly sorry
about that. I understand if you need to go somewhere else too. Whatever
you feel you need to do to get the most bang for your buck, right?

If you happen to have any other questions, let me know and I'll be happy
to answer them for you.

Thanks,

Jason

So, I now have a new account with netfirms, its just gonna be a bitch to move over my databases and sites that i had hosted on there.

Anyone know how to move databases from host to host or any linkage to info on that?

I did almost exactly the same thing. I didn't figure I could get $10 or whatever, but you'd figure they'd offer something in the $60 range. But just like you, no dice. I think Dreamhost is going to lose a lot of customers like this.

If only I could find a decent host that offers SSH access.

Just signed up. This will be excellent for my wedding website.
Edit:
How long did everyone wait for propagation?

did anyone else notice that in the basic term of service, they reserve the right to install POP UPS or POP UNDERS at their discretion?

have not seen any popups or unders on my site. check my sig links (not the bored one, the others)- all hosted by netfirms and deal with a hell of a lot of traffic during top gear/ fifth gear season...

too good to be true, but it really is true

I have a site hosted with them and it is just SLOW. No pictures or flash or anything and not much text. I am not too impressed with them. The customer service was good, I like that you can actually talk to someone on the phone.

let me mention this:

speed wise- latency is HORRIBLE, it takes ages to establish a connectoin and start transferring.

however, sustainable data transfer SPEED is awesome. my top gear episodes transfer over 2mbytes/second at times and really pump an incredible amount of data out.

i also use it for a few backups from my server and typically get between 1.5mbytes/sec - 2mbytes/sec via ftp.

bottom line- good for bulky media, bad for websites.

HORRIBLE for databases, i tried putting up a forum and got mysql errors non stop.

I know many domain hosts provide a "private" feature, which blocks all of your personal information from WHOIS, etc. Does netfirms do this automatically?

for a basic website, would this host be good?

Do they support IMAP? Does not say anything about IMAP anywhere on their website. If yes, do they support secure IMAP?

They don't do it automatically, you have to enable the feature. I wouldn't recommend these guys for any website, unless you plan on hosting some videos for friends and family. I have a text based site setup and it's ridiculously slow as zimu stated.

I'd probably stick with dreamhost, even though they also oversell, they seem to be much faster than netfirms.

I missed out on the dreamhost 888 and 777 deals, so I am afraid this might be my only option. I think I might just do it for only 10 dollars, unless I come across any better deals.

After checking, dreamhost has some great coupons still available. Their maximum discount is 97 dollars off a one year or greater plan. Unfortunately, their smallest plan is still going to be $2 a month, they dont have any Level -3 plans available.

But for my use, hosting a website, I think dreamhost might be my best option.

This is only semi-related, but wasn't there another hosting deal posted like yesterday with the company that AT is hosted with? I can't seem to find it anymore...

Yeah there was. I was the last to post in it and I had a slightly negative comment. When I went back to look again the thread was gone.

Bump for a good deal.
My nephews wrestling team was thinking about putting up a site, and this will be perfect for them to try out.

The deal is supposed to be good through the end of the month.
