This is misleading. The sale is 10% off your NEXT order if you purchase $250+ in merchandise NOW.

Hi Wiseone, and others -

This deal is NOT a referral -- none of my links are referral links. However, like many users on Anandtech, I have a signature with a link to a personal site and/or referral.

This shouldn't be locked -- it is a hot deal, whether you click on my sig or not.

Sorry, but this deal sucks....with or without your referral code.

You have to purchase from Crutchfield twice in order to get discount.

BTW, ask yourself if you really would have posted this if you didn't have a vested interest in getting referrals. My thought is, probably not.

Dudes. Crutchfield is great. They have an outlet store in Charlottesville VA(the one thing charlottesville has, besides an empty value america office.

Anyway, good quality stuff(better than circuit city and best buy). Reasonable prices(from the outlet store, never have shopped the catalog). Friendly sales people...

Now if only this deal applied to Polk schtuff, this would be a hot deal. Pick up a pair of RT600i's for $500, and get $50 for a reciever or sub... Plus, they have clearence sales sometimes where you can get a pair of R40's for $300.

To rich for my blood though... Poor college student. I just go into their showroom and look at all the cool toys... Watch DVD's on $15k-$20k systems. Someday, someday...

Yeah, Crutchfield is AWESOME. They're there until midnight and you can ask them all kinds of technical questions. If anybody wants to get 25 off 250, I'll allow them to use my code, I don't mind...really...<G>

Crutchfield prices STINK for mail order. No amount of coupons will bring their prices down to a competitive level with any other mail order place. Only thing they've got going for them is their excellent customer service (which you pay for in the high prices).

For someone who knows what they want and has done their homework, Crutchfield's wonderful customer service is pretty useless. Might as well go somewhere that's much cheaper.

u get a pretty good deal with their head units and stuff.

everything else the prices way too high to be justified for.

but for a person who doesn't know much about car audio but wants to do it themselves, crutchfield is great ^_^

I wouldn't even buy a head unit from Crutchfield.
Back in 1999 I bought the following from Carmedia1:

Sony CDX-C90 head unit $729
Sony MDX-65 MD changer $314
Sony CDX-828 CD changer $244
Grand total: $1287.00

Back in 1999, these were Crutchfield's prices on the same stuff:

Sony CDX-C90 head unit $1,199.95
Sony MDX-65 MD changer $449.95
Sony CDX-828 CD changer $349.95
Grand total: $1999.85

Difference: $712.85!!! That's not a small difference either!

So I didn't get a free wire harness, but they only cost $10 or so, and I already had one from my previous head unit anyway. Too bad Carmedia1 raised all their prices last year, so they're no longer the best place to buy from. I noticed Ebay actually has the lowest prices on SOME stuff.

If you're talking about www.carmedia1.com, this site is extremely hard to navigate, and I don't know if I'd buy from them. Did your order go through fine and everything? They do not look reputable at all.

Crutchfield may not really be a "hot deal" but they have outstanding customer service. They'll go the extra mile in helping you with any difficulties - they're definitely in the top 10 of all mail order companies. Yes their prices ARE HIGH, but sometimes it's worth paying more for good service.

The best deals crutchfield usually have are for car speakers and closeout head units. I bought a pair fo Polk Db 5.25's from them a few years ago for 80 bucks , on sale from 170. They often have infinity and polk on clearance which makes them pretty attractive in my mind.

When you buy through Crutchfield, you're paying a little higher for whatever you get, knowing that you're buying from a reputable company, some added extras (like mounting harnesses) and very good customer service.

Of course ebay's prices are usually better than Crutchfield's... but try getting your ebay seller to pay for you to return the item and/or help you install it.

Plus, after Crutchfield's discounts, it can sometimes be very competitive. Case in point: I shopped ebay for a Sony XPLOD ES CDX-M750 CD head unit... They were selling for an average of $280 + $12 ship + $20 installation kit (+ tax from some sellers) = $312. I got it from Crutchfield for $349 - $25 (new customer) - $25 (10% GC next purch) = $300 even -- no shipping or tax. That's pretty hot to get an item from a reputable store for cheaper than ebay, no?

It was April 1999 when I ordered from them, and at that time, my order went through fine. Prices were the best I had found, and I received everything within a week of ordering. Everything was brand new in unopened boxes.

They did not have a return policy though, so pretty much it's one of those places where you have to know what you want. Some brands they carry (Clarion for example) will not honor a warranty if not purchased from an authorized dealer. I'm lucky Sony doesn't have such a policy, so they happily honored a warranty claim on my CD changer.

I don't know that I would order from them today. They jacked up all the prices last year, and jacked up shipping prices too I think. Some of the stuff I bought in '99 is still current today, and Carmedia charges more for them now than back in '99! Doesn't make sense for the price of electronics to go UP.
