what exactly is so bad about the made in taiwan ones? there was only one spindle left at my compusa and they were the made in taiwan ones so i bought it. rather than just say they are "crap" i don't see any valid explanations as to whats so bad about them.

Nice! I just came back, got two spindles, both Taiyo Yuden:

ATIP: 97m 24s 01f
Disc Manufacturer: Taiyo Yuden Company Ltd.
Assumed Dye type: Cyanine (Type 1)
Media type: CD-Recordable
Recording Speeds: min. unknown - max. unknown
nominal Capacity: 656.40MB (74m 43s 00f / LBA: 336075)

FYI, when you're at the store you can actually look at the fine print on the packaging and if it says "Made in Japan" then they are TY. If it says "Made in Taiwan" then they're Ritek.

Great deal! Thanks!

My compusa was sold out of the 100 packs but were replacing it with two 2 50 packs that are 80 minutes and 16x. My question is the does rebate still apply since these are 16x and 80min cd's and not the 74min ones. The rebate slip doesn't have these on it. Only the 74min ones. Can the rebate still be used or what?

Can I PM this to Staples? They also have the TDK 100 pack for 49.99 at the B & M store.

AFAIK the rebate works for any store, not just CompUSA. So you could pricematch CompUSA's $29 to Staples' $49 and then use the rebate. But does Staples still have their 110% PM?

Whats a good program for figuring out the dyes on CDRs?

I just but 100 of the Japan ones and I want to compare them to the 150+ Kingston 12x CDRs from Outpost that I have too.

These are TDK DATA CD-Rs. Can you record music on them OK?
Think it's actually 50 for $9.95.

I use Kingston 8X @ 12X without any problem. I have an Iomega 12x10x32.

Its not that I have any problems with the Kingston (I have burned over 100 of the 8 or 12 speeds without any problems).

In fact, I don't think I have every had problems burning with any brand (I am using an 8x plextor). My concern is, how long will these CDRs last?

I have had Memorex CDRs go bad after about 3-4 months. I haven't been using the Kingstons for long enough to know if they are good or not (only been using them for like 2 months).

ss284, the two 50 packs bundled together are made in Japan as far as what my local CompUSA has in stock. The individual 50 packs on the other hand are made in Taiwan. Maybe the clerk you talked to figured they were the same and just grabbed the individual 50 pack to give you an answer.

JYA, If you go through Staples you might as well get two and use a coupon.
$60-10 coupon -40 2xrebates =$10 + tax/shipping for 200 CDs!
For that matter, does Office Depot carry the TDK 100s? There's still that 15/50 coupon.

Just bought mine at the Staples in Spokane WA. Staples did a PM no problem. They had the twin-50 packs, made in Japan. I printed the rebate coupon from the TDK site.

Thanks for the great deal!

What you guys mean by burned cdr go bad? You mean easily scratched? Took a long time to load?

I bought generic kind most of time, and they are all good even years after I burned them...

Well,

I said I wasn't going to, but I did anyway. I bought 2-100packs. The (2) 50 packs bundled together.

Let's get some basic info out so we don't keep getting the same questions over and over.

1. If you can, buy the 2 50 packs bundled together. These are made in Japan and are better quality.

2. Frankly, its a good deal even if they are made in Taiwan, so buy those.

3. This is an all week deal, so you can pricematch with most stores.

4. They're sold online for $29.99 + Tax + shipping. Use this as a last resort.

5. Rebate has a limit of 3 100 packs per household.

Now that I have like 450 CDR's, I'm set for the whole year I'm sure.

I SWEAR TO GOD, I'M NOT BUYING ANY MORE CDR'S UNTIL I REALLY NEED THEM........THIS IS GETTING OUT OF HAND!!!! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, STOP POSTING THE GREAT CDR DEALS. I CAN'T BUY ANY MORE!!

I was at the crapusa a while ago going to buy 300 cds. Then I remembered that I still have 150 at home and that I should probably use those up first. But yeah, this is a really good deal.

Got my 2 50pack TDK at CompUSA today.
None are left when I returned. Perhaps they save some in stock for the week.

Just got the 100pack spindle from CompUSA today.. (the made in Taiwan ones) Are they any good? At least they're not blue.. Cuz from my past experience, the blue dye just does not work w/ any* Panasonic Discmans. That's why I hate them so much now. The TDKs I used before are all blue.. (that was like 2yrs ago) So that's why I'm kinda skeptical about these. Are they any good? What kind of dye (color) is best for cd players? Shoot, I think I'm starting to sound a little dumb.. so i should stop.. =)
