First "hot deal" so go easy.
Got this flier in the mail. You sign up for the card, make a purchase, and they'll give you enough points to redeem for a $100 GC for a bunch of places.
There's been Citi deals for Ipod Shuffles/$100 for their checking, now you can use it for a Circuit City one if you'll like and make some great deals happen.

What fuss? I love my credit cards, I get free extended warranties and free gift cards just for using my credit card, they're accepted everywhere, and no need to worry about cash. Of course, I'm the type that carries no balance and pays off my credit card each month.

Back to the original post, this Citi card in the deal is my main credit card now. The bonus points for gas and supermarket purchases really adds up, I average a $50 gift card every 2 months now. They also offer virtual cc numbers for Internet purchases.

How many points for the $50 gift card, where can it be used? can one get cash?

What I've been told from the CSR about how it works, is that after you make your first purchase and your billing cycle is up, they will award you an extra 10,000 points, which can be redeemed for $50-$100 (depending on merchant) gift cards from their Thank You network.

I signed up when this deal was posted a month ago. So far I like the card!

You CAN redeem for cash, but not $100 of it. I think it is around $50 also.

So it sounds like excluding the initial bonus, this is just a 1% card at best (I'm assuming you get 1 pt for every $ spent, so $100GC for 10,000 pts), except with most 1% cards you can actually get that back in cash. Here you convert it to GC's. Not bad if you're planning on spending money there anyways, but cash is always king.

yah, 1% card, 5% at gas stations, supermarkets, and drug stores.

you can apply the savings to your credit card balance (which is like cash if you pay off your balance every month) .... but i'm not sure about the rewards, check the link above by 1cheap2crazy for details.

It looks like the OP gets paid $1 for every 2000 views of that page. That page also has a stupid fvcking popup that the proximotron, firefox, adblock, etc didn't block.

I prefer my post to his a month ago, see my post above.

No, the link is to the scan not a sign up page. I don't own a server/web page so they host the image for free. If you guys can host the image for me i'll edit the post.

Yeah, you do get $100 in a gift card for Home Depot or Target, but it took me 7 calls over 4 months to get the reward credited. Now, 8 months after getting the card and 7 months after first using it, I still have not gotten the gift card. BEWARE

What's there to "relax"? I followed the rules like a Prussian and ended up calling them 7 (s e v e n) times over 5 (f i v e) months. They tried to me shuttle me around from Citibank to the Redemption people and back...all clueless. A clear violation of the contract, as reward points were supposed to show up and become available for redemption within two billing cycles...RELAX? NO, BEWARE.

I just got my $100 gift card on Friday, no need to call anybody. I got it in less than a month. Hassle free in my experience.

So can i just sigh up get a card, use it for like a $5 purchase and get my points? Then tear up the card?
Does signing up for cards then not using them or cancelling them look bad on your credit

I belive it will lower your score some tiny points for a couple of months but then the fact that you now have "more" credit will bring it up a couple more points that you originally had. I had 798 before signing up and i currently have 793, i applied for this card and the sony $100 card too, so not to bad.

Someone posted that you get might only get $100 for Home Depot and Target. 2 other participants are Best Buy and Staples. So, is it possible you might only get a $50 gift card for Best Buy and Staples? If so, not so hot for me, and also makes me distrust the whole thing as they say $100 period in all their advertising.
