I read on another site that the new Princo yellows are the second best disc out there next to Pioneer discs. They also agreed that the old ones were inconsistent.

Anyone know how the compatibility of 4x Princo discs are with the Optorite dd0203?

This is the review that I left on Meritline.com:

Comments by Greg Haynes 6/28/2003

These DVD-R's offer the best bang for the buck. I bought 100 pack and finished the pack without a single bad burn. All DVD's were burned on my Pioneer A05 and haved been played on my Toshiba SD-5109 and various Pioneer players. All have played 100% fine. Was so pleased with these DVD-R's that I bought another 100pack at the new $108 price. Thank you Meritline for offering such a great deal.

The Princo 4X DVD-R media work fine in the Optorite DD0203, but they only burn at 2x, same as with the Sony. I purchased 100 of these (two spindles of 50 each), and would like to unload the unopened spindle of 50. If interested, PM me.

Princo dvd-r media have always been fine with me, other stores sell white top dvdpro these are also princo and are fine for me. Princo have a bad name when it comes to dvd media because so many people had problems with their dvd-rw media.

I just bought the 25 pack with dvd cases and free shipping.

don't want to buy too many until I am sure they'll work in my Xbox.

I have burned over 250 DVD-R's, ALL Princo and not a single problem !! The oldest ones are about 1-year old and still play well in all of my 3 DVD players. Why spend more money for some "higher" quality disks ?

Princo is NOT a swear word, I've burned hundreds of them without issue, so do not judge them without trying them, thanks for the heads up on the deal!

Be aware that Meritline and Allmediaoutlet are less then reliable.
They have pulled some real shady stuff in the past like selling Princo's as Ritek's
or name brand "OEM" and selling Princo's.

Also know that these two companies are either owned by the same people or are actually the
same company. There is a 3rd one too, but I forget the name and it's not Rima.com (they are actually a decent company).

Princo discs are also considered very low quality.

For more info on anything I have said here read the DVD Burning forum at forum.doom9.org

You may have bought stuff fine and your discs may have worked fine, but I will never buy from either of these
places or buy Princo discs.

I'm on my 2 pack of 100 and have I had no problems at all. I'm going to stick with the Princos since they have been very reliable for me on my burner and I believe they have the best value at this time. $108 for a 100 pack is damn good deal!

This post is for the benefit of non-Pioneer drive makes (mostly Sony but also DD0203 and NEC/TDK +/- 4x)

Princo 1x burned fine on my Pioneer 104, but they fail about 50% of the time on the Sony DRU-510A (or 500A, tried that too.) If you have a Sony, stay away from the Princo 1x media. DVD-Pro is Princo, so are some others (Leda, many storebrands, etc), check on DVDRHELP for disc codes that are princos. Basically Princo makes the cheapest of the cheap media.

Note: For both Ritek and Princo, there *is* a difference between 1x and 4x media.

The Princo 4x will also not burn at 4x on the Sony so stay away from that as well, unless you dont mind 2x burns. CMC Magnetics is hard to find unbranded, but they have a LOT of problems, so watch out for made in Taiwan TDKs and Verbatims (possibly Taiwanese Fujis too)

For cheap media on the Sony, you can try the LeadData 4x (or OEMs, such as Sony) or the Ritek G04 (or OEMs) which supposedly burn at 4x. Ritek is more expensive but not a LOT more expensive.

Keep in mind, you should be able to buy name brand discs on special or sale from time to time for under $2 each, the best 4xs are those made by MCC (Mitsubishi) in Singapore or Japan, the Ricoh discs and the Phillips, so if you find a deal on any of these especially in store where you can look at the Made in ... label, look out for those.

Hope that helps some people.

Bought a 50 pack of the Princo's that burned perfectly at 4x on my A05. Based on the good luck I had with 'em, I bought a hundred more. So far, the first 10 or 12 have refused to burn at 4x, giving errors such as "power calibration error" and a variety of other errors. They do burn fine at 2X though. I guess YMMV on these Princo 4x discs.

I've burned both Princo 1x and 4x white-tops without problem. The issues with princos are that they are (in my experience) less compatible than other, higher-quality DVDRs (such as Ritek G03s and G04s) in terms of set-top playability. All the Princos I've burned (about 35) can be read in my A05 and a significant number of other DVD-ROMs and set-top boxes, but not all. Im currently using Ritek G04s from www.esbuy.com and the 50 or so I've burned have proven to be far more compatible than the Princos (even the 4x ones). If I could get the Princos @ a great price like this thread is listing, then I would forgo the small compatibility issues and go for it!
