If a company offers a rebate and one sends in the required items to qualify for the rebate, isn't one entitled to the rebate by law? I would have to think there is something that one could do to ensure they don't get stiffed on the rebate.

this is old news... it's just ripped off of fat wallet. I already gots me THREE of these this weekend. Though, much talking and calling of Microcenter was involved.... and i had to go to 5 BB's to get 3 drives cuz the managers at 2 of the stores werent down with it. It was worth it though, $750 dollars worth for storage for $90 bucks, cant go wrong.

btw..that's so hillarious, Microcenter an online only store? You'd think people would make sure they know what they are talking about before they go spouting off

YumYum - for the one rebate the "capacity label" is the part of the yellow
sticker in the lower right of the box that says 120 GB and the "UPC" is the
part of the sticker that folds over onto the bottom with the standard UPC symbol.

I dont have a Microcenter here and have had bad luck with trying PM's so
I bought the drive at BB at their price, have the receipts in hand. Came home
and ordered same drive at Dell for $147 - once I get that in, will return the drive
back to BB and send in the rebates with the special BB "rebate receipt" using
the UPC etc from the second unit. Rebate houses dont have capability to check
if the product was returned back, and if I send in an original UPC, they shouldnt
think to.

No, actually. I didn't rip this deal from anywhere, and the BB rebate started today, so it's not old.

You're thinking of CompUSA or OfficeMax who have similar deals, but on the 8MB Cache version. These "deals" required you to unfaithfully use a misprint to your advantage.

How can you receive 5 rebates? I thought rebate deals were good for only 1 per address..

I dont see how you could get 2 rebates...... the 20 dollar rebate requires original UPC code from the box, so does the 100 dollar rebate


Edit: Apparently, one requires a capacity label and the other needs original UPC code

In fact, the Micro Center price will be good until 9/29. I just went to MC and got the new ad. They still have it for $149, but they corrected their typo (8mb-->2mb in the new ad).

Just called the MicroCenter in Houston. They have the drive for $149 "in the system". Yesterday was the last day at $149 technically, but they still quoted me that price. So it won't hurt trying to match at BB tonight.

The $100 WD rebate and the $20 BB reabate both print out @ BB when you buy the drive.

I mailed them off today, First Class Mail. Hope they come back

I just bought one. They honored the MC pricematch no problem, but when the 2 rebate forms printed out of the register, he wouldn't give them to me. He said that since they pricematched, that would be "double-dipping". I said "Wait, it's up to me whether I send in the rebates, not you." He wouldn't go for it. So, I just went to Bestbuy.com and printed out both rebate forms from there.

I'm sending them in anyway of course, but the one thing that concerns me is that the receipt says "REG 249.00 WITH MATCH COMPETITORS PRICE". Not sure if that will invalidate the rebates or not. Can't hurt to try.

The rebate form says that all materials sent become the property of WESTERN DIGITAL, not Best Buy. So hopefully that message on the receipt won't matter. We'll see.

(Edit to above: only the $100 rebate says "property of WD" and goes to Young America, the $20 rebate seems to be solely from BB and goes to Calais ME.)

I also looked at the Best Buy website for their policies on rebates and pricematching. Neither section said that you couldn't do both.

The Best Buy in my area said that Microcenter is not considered a Competitor anymore, therefore they wouldnt pricematch the price.

The Best Buy and Microcenter in my area are both Local to one another.

Best Buy PM policy states that the PM price has to be the same exact model from a LOCAL COMPETITOR. So i couldnt get it to work.

(on a side note, OM and Staples PM policy, which are the exact same, word for word, pricematch to any store, anywhere).

That's the biggest line of BS that I've ever heard. Who says? I'd go back and talk to someone else and then get the managers name and let them know that you're contacting corporate. They hate that because corporate contacts the store and the manager has to contact you to apologize for the complaint. Not to mention, that I'm sure that corporate records this info.

BTW.. Has anyone managed to PM BB online with Microcenter's price?

I went to MC this morning, picked up their new ad with the drive shown for $149 with 2MB cache, drove two blocks to Best Buy, and PM'ed the drive and got the rebates! I hope they go thru, I am a little worried about the "PriceMatch to Competitor $149" as well but I can't find any info stating that invalidates the rebate so I will bitch to no end if it doesn't go thru. I wanted to get the second drive they had on the shelf and do the same thing but I didn't want to press my luck, so I'll go back later and get it. Plus the other Best Buy that is 5 minutes away from me is getting HDD's in tonight and they will be on the shelf tomorrow morning so I will try there. Thank you ATHD guys (and girls)!

In the Fry's ad today (for those of you in California), the Western Digital 120gb is 124.99, which after price matching and rebates at Best Buy, would be something ridiculous like $5.00. Too bad there are no drives left on the shelf at any local BB store around me!

woohoo, one of the best deals for me. i was able to pricematch at BB after some hassle. The first BB i went to gave me lots of crappy reasons for not PMing MicroCenter, but i didnt give up... i kept pushing until i got the deal.


BB: Sorry, but we don't PM online stores
Me: Well, MicroCenter has a store here in Houston.
BB: We don't have their number, so we can't call and verify, so we can't PM.
Me: Just check the yellow pages, they are in there.
BB: Okay but you have to come with me to customer service desk.
(got the the CS desk and they had another customer doing the same PM. She had the location and phone number of MicroCenter with her)
BB: This store is by the Galleria, so you have to go to the BB there to get a PM. We ONLY PM competitors nearby.
Me: Well, can you show me that on paper if that is your policy. I want to see it in writing.
(CSR went to the manager.. they discuss for 2-3mins)
BB Manager: Call and verify, it MUST be exact item. We can only PM 1 drive for you since there is only 1 printout.
Me: No there are 2 separate.. one is mine and other is hers.
BBM: yes but you two came together
Me and other Lady: what? we did not. i dunno him/her.
BBM: okay fine 1 each.

After that, i took off to another BB and was able to grab 2 more for friends. Less hassle there. All they did was call MC and see if MC was a wholesaler.

I just PM'd the Microcenter price at Best Buy. Funny thing is that the closest Microcenter B&M is 132 miles away. Twice a week I work at our satellite office, which is near a BB that is 44 miles away from Microcenter. I tried calling that BB and have them put one on hold, but the guy said he couldn't do it. But he said he was surprised there were still 4 on the shelf even though it was only $50 AR, after-PM. Thus, even the employees know about this deal. So, I just printed out the ad and PM'd to the BB near me today and just told them to call the other BB to confirm. Manager wasn't too happy but PM'd anyway adding that I couldn't have the rebates though. No biggie since I can just get the forms online!!
