I actually had read the form, and it does just say a copy of the receipt. I am only wondering that perhaps the reason the kid kept the rebate receipt was so he could enter my transaction number into some magic database, and rebateshq would check my transaction number and it would be rejected. I hate worrying about it, so I will probably just mail it in, xerox everything, and maybe even use delivery confirmation. I suppose $155 out the door for 120 gigs isn't all that bad. I think I'll also try my local Best Buy today after work, and if it works I'll return the first to OM. The only problem with that plan is that Best Buy's $100 goes to Young America (boo) and OM's goes to Miami through rebateshq.com (yay.)

Is there any actual evidence that Best Buy won't honor the $100 rebate if you used a pricematch, assuming you receive the necessary forms from the register?

Out of curiosity, does anyone have a Best Buy near them that still has this drive in stock?

That's not a bad idea, schuang74. If they refuse to PM, you can return the unit for a refund, can't you? Do they give you your receipt back if you get a post-purchase PM? Since only a copy of the receipt is required, just make your copies before you get the PM and they scribble all over your receipt.

What about this idea?

I already bought two PM'ed drives from BB, with the PM showing on the receipt.

Could I buy two more drives at full price, get the rebate receipts too,

photocopy all the receipts for the two full-price drives,

TAKE BACK the two full-price drives,

Send in the rebates with the copied full-price receipts and rebate receipts and the UPC and Capacity labels from the other two drives.

So essentially I would be temporarily buying two new HDD's just for the rebate receipts and regular receipt without the PM on it, then taking the drives back unaltered (no UPC cut or anything) and returning them but keeping the rebate receipts. They wouldn't assume anything because I can't send in a rebate without the UPC and capacity label. Then I can just send in the rebate receipts from the returned drives along with the UPC and Capacity label from the two previous PM'ed drives I got.

You guys think this should work okay? Then I won't have to worry about BB not accepting my rebates because of the PM on the receipts.

Heh.. I thougt that too when the CSR at OD kept my register printed rebate forms from the PNY RAM deal that I did. I was all paranoid thinking that he'd call in the transaction number to the rebate fulfillment house and blackball my submission. Heh.. A lot of worrying for nothing. I'm approved on my rebate no problem for the RAM. The clueless CSR probably just thought that I wouldn't have any way of submitting the rebate if he kept the forms. Little does he know, they are usually posted on the store's web page.

The moral of my story is: Don't worry about it. These managers are too lazy to do most of the sh*t that it takes to run a store anyway. Do you think that they will really waste their time and call the rebate house to blackball your submission. They can care less.

I have another question. If I buy another HDD at BB (at the full price no PM) can I return it to a different BB in a different city? Like if I buy it in Cleveland can I return it in Cincinnati? Or do I have to take it to the store I bought it from?

To put this simply, I just want to know is there any way for the BB rebate place (Young America) to look at the receipt for the full-price purchase of the HDD (which I returned, minus rebate receipts and with original receipt copied) and punch in a number on it and tell that that transaction had been returned? Do they have that kind of access to BB's system? I don't want to do all this extra work and have Young America tell me that the receipt I submitted came up on their systems that the drive was returned.

Can someone please answer my questions? I am headed down to Cincinnati from Cleveland in a couple hours and need to know two things:

1. Can I buy a HDD here in Cleveland at BB and return it to a BB in Cincinnati?

2. Can Young America or the other BB rebate place look up my transaction from the rebate receipt and determine that the drive was taken back (talking about getting a full-price receipt and rebate receipt to copy and send in with the UPC and Cap. label from the HDD I PM'ed so I don't have to use receipts that say PM on them.)

You can return it at any BB.

Actually, what I proposed was if the BB nearest to a Microcenter doesn't have the hard drive in stock, grab it at another store that does have it in stock for full price and then drive to the BB nearest the Microcenter and do the PM. They shouldn't give you any crap about Microcenter not being a competitor or the store not being "local".

There's always that risk. BB seems pretty automated these days. If I go to buy something for in-store pick up and then return it in-store, I get an automatic email confirming that I returned the product. Who knows if this system is tied to the rebate fulfillment house. My guess is no, but I'm not making any promises. I say no because every time I have a question about a BB rebate, the CSR at the BB rebate center has to do a 3-way call with the fulfillment center. OTOH.. You could probably get away with the manufacturer's rebate, but no telling on the $20 rebate because that's a BB rebate. Besides, it's fraud if you buy a product, send in the rebate and then return the product.

I wasn't aware that CC had a rebate on this drive.

Well I wanted to send in the rebate with the UPC and Cap label of the OTHER hdd that i bought at BB that I pm'ed. I just wanted to get rid of the "PriceMatch to Competitor" on the receipt.

I am thinking I will just stick with sending in the rebates with the receipts that have PM on them, just to make sure I am not committing fraud. And if they don't want to honor the rebate I will have my lawyer politely call them and inform them that they did not make it evident ANYWHERE, either at their store or on their site, that rebates for PM'ed products would not be accepted, and that we can either pursue legal action or they can make us happy and give me the rebate.

Also would it not be fraud to buy the drive at full price, and copy that receipt for sending in with the rebate, then PM'ing the drive after purchase to $149?

Did anyone had any experience with Rebateshq.com? Are they reliable? As stated above, I bought this HD at CC, and the only way for me to get the 100 dollar rebate is to go through rebateshq.

Thanks ...

Buy the drive online at Bestbuy.com using Amex card with BVG. Do in store pickup. Send in the rebates, PM to Micro Center with AMEX BVG, you got the drive for $49 plus tax. AMEX BVG will work because Bestbuy.com does not have a pricematch program.

Solema, you can return the hard drive to any store for an attempted pricematch.

Here in Cincinnati, the Best Buy just down the road from Microcenter (the store by TriCounty Mall) is out of stock and even if they had stock, they told me under no circumstance would any manager approve this price match. I am driving now to the new little store on Glenway on the west side of town to see if they have any.

BVG could potentially give you a hassle since they will most likely know about the rebate.

Actually if you think about it, if you buy it at BestBuy.com and then do an instore pickup you are essentially buing it from the retail store. So PM'ing it shouldn't be a problem. I figure if they accept returns instor from BB.com purchases, they will also provide other standard instore deals.

The big thing to remember is to perform the PM after (get the recept and add and go back) you buy the drive that way you can cash in on the 10% off from the difference.

Grrr. I just called our local BB and they said they "caught on" to the rebate/PM thing. Aparently they woun't do it. I think ill take the guy above me's sugestion about PMing after I purchase the drive. Am I correct in assuming that I can match the price after I pay for everything and leave the store?

Pretty much. Make copies of your receipts for the rebates just in case they scribble on them during the PM or if they get fux0red in some way.

I guess BB have caught on to this deal quick...
I went to the BB (for u Dallas peep, the one on north 75) and saw that the shelf didn't have any. I ask the guy behind the counter when they were gonna have some in and his immediate response was, " We'll get some in tomorrow AND WE ARE NOT PRICEMATCHING WITH MICROCENTER!!!"
Huh? What did I say? Did I have some big neon sign posted on top of my forehead with flashing message that says "Anantech User about to scam BB for a 120Gb HDD for $29!!!"
I guess that deal is dead. Bleah!

If a BB employee signs or scribbles on the receipt does that make it invalid for rebates? The BB guy at the door scribble what looks to be his initials on the receipt as I was leaving (standard "check to make sure merchandise was paid" thing that they do to everyone that they don't physically see check out). Should I copy and try to white-out the scribble? Does it matter? It doesn't say anything like "Don't do rebate" or whatever.

Also frankqfrank please let me know if you find any at the other Best Buy! I'm gonna try the one at Eastgate but I am not sure if they'll PM MC since they aren't really close to it.

Well, in that case, I'll be pointing out their published PM policy to them... I don't think it says, "We reserve the right to refuse to pricematch any item if we feel like it."

Nope, it does not make the receipt invalid. I've done a few rebates from BB that had various scribbles on them with no problem. Of course, it would be much easier if you used the rebate receipts that printed (assuming BB gave those to you).

Yeah I know. Problem is they only gave the rebate receipts to me for one of the drives I bought the day before. When I bought my second drive the following day the CSR crumpled up my rebate receipts. I shouldn't have a problem, since I printed out the rebate forms from BB.com rebate center for the two rebates, right?
