Sweet. I even used my friend's name on the pricematch receipt where you fill out the info. The drive is for him with his money used to pay for it, but he's at college so he told me to just sign it as him. If anyone were ever to ask if he bought it he would say yes anyway. So there's no way they can trace both trace both transactions back to me, since I used cash for both. Plus if BB tries to deny my rebate submission on the grounds that I PM'ed the drives, I can have my lawyer cite to them the laws for not making that information openly available, either on the receipt or on their rebate center website.

UPDATE:

It looks like this deal is DEAD for anyone who hasn't gotten in on it yet. My brother went to BB today to PM the drive and the Manager there told him that all Best Buy's received an email today telling all CSR's NOT to PM the drive or they will be fired.

The OM way still looks good, though.

Can anyone confirm this at another BB that isn't in the Greater Cleveland area?

I think it's corporate emails like this that scare off MODs and CSRs from doing PMs in the future... and making our next PM attempt that much harder. :|

I just got back from officemax today, i have been trying to PM at best buy for the past 3 days and finally gave up on BB, they were full of excuses from they cannot pricematch cos MC was more than 2miles away to the fact that the closer MC does not have it in stock. Finally I walk across to OM yesterday and bought the drive for 249.99 and left. I then went back today with the MC advert, the manager called both MCs, one was out of stock and the other had 72 on hand, he PMed it 115% which brought the price to $143 out of the store, with a the $100 rebate, it now comes to $43. This is ok with me a faint hearted one, else if you want to an extra mile you could you the $25 off $75 or more at the back of the catalog to get it for $18

Thanks for the heads up on OM, this is my first PM and i am loving it

I went to BB today and picked up the drive for 250 and plus the rebates. Came back later that day to pricematch, but they said that since the price with the rebate is cheaper than Microcenter that they won't pricematch. So there goes that. A few hours ago I went to a Circuit City and bought the drive for 250 and told them that I wanted to pricematch. The worker saw the ad and thought that the drive was 110, but when he called his manager to ok the pricematch, they realized it was 110 OFF. But nonetheless I received the pricematch for 150. They manager looked through the Microcenter ad as if I had forged it or something, but in the end commented that it was really chea and punched in the authorization. Now all I have to do is to do the rebate through rebateshq.com BTW, the BB was the one on Almaden Expressway in San Jose, CA. THe Circuit City was on Stevens Creek in San Jose, CA. The CC had at least 2 left in the their glass cabinet. I just wish this rebate goes through.

I tried and they would not give me the price match - Katy, Texas. Gave some crap about rebates. I ended up just getting a refund and told them I was going to call the corporate office. I was not a jerk or anything, just let them know I thought it was false advertising. On a good note, I only gave them my original receipt, I was able to keep my rebate forms and rebates receipts. So I am going to Microcenter to pick up the drive for $149, so:

149 + tax
-120 rebates
= ~$40 - $50
Still a great deal for a 120 GB!!!!

jkeener71...

That won't work, those rebates receipt are your confirmation that you did buy the drive at Best Buy... I think WD is a little smarter in giving away their $100 rebates to people who returned the drives back to BB... I will be shocked if you get $100 back, but good luck... Give me a heads up if this works - but I highly doubt it.

I thought RebatesHQ.com was only handling the OfficeMax rebate? What other stores can you get the drive at and still process the rebate through RebatesHQ?

Went to BB today, they had 2 in stock. Had him PM against the Santa Clara MicroCenter. I think he was going to give on the "outside the location" bit (about 25 miles). But he used the competitor needs to have it in stock line. We called MC, they are out and will be out for another week.

If anyone has any better luck, let me know.

I think that is the case. I entered a fake one online with all fake info and a spam address and the email said "Thanks for registering for your OFFICEMAX rebate." I never mentioned anything about officemax when giving my info to rebateshq.com.

If you bought the drive at Circuit City or even at Micro Center and think you can get the rebate from rebateshq.com, I believe you are sorely mistaken. I guess there is no way to tell until you recieve the rebate or get it refused.

Also, why bother pricematching at Circuit City? If you are gonna chance the rebateshq.com rebate, why not just buy it at Microcenter?

I'm so pissed, I went to the Sterling, VA BestBuy store and tried to pricematch and they told me no because Microcenter's price is AFTER Rebate? (This was after waiting in the return line for 45 minutes!!!) Has anyone else had this problem?

Ok guys, I found out some more interesting news about qualifying for the rebates from BB.

I only received the rebate receipts and forms for one of the two drives I bought. So I printed out the rebate forms on BB's Rebate Center website.

Well I was all ready to send out the rebates when I realized that I still wasn't sure what constituted the "Capacity Label" and what consituted the "UPC" since there were two barcodes on the bottom. So I called Western Digital via the 1-888 number provided on the $100 Rebate form (different than the BB Rebate Center number on the $20 rebate form) and the lady there told me that by "Capacity Label" that means they need the whole label INCLUDING the UPC that is attached to the label and on the underside of the box. So then I told the lady that the other rebate I have needs that original UPC and she told me to call them and ask if they will accept a copy of the UPC.

So I called the other number on the $20 rebate form (The BB Rebate Center) and the woman looked up the rebate code number BB 28287, which is the rebate number that is on the actual $20 BB rebate form printed at the register, and she said that they will accept copies of the UPC according to the information she had.

Well this was fine and dandy for one of the rebates, but the rebate form I printed off of BB.com for the $20 has a different rebate number - BB 28333. I told her I lost one of the rebate forms and went to the website and printed it and it has a different number and she told me that the rebate forms on the website are for ONLINE purchases only. Well that could explain the difference in rebate codes for the 20 rebate, but the code for the $100 rebate is the same code as printed on the register rebate form. So that part doesn't seem to hold up.

What do you guys know about using BB.com rebate center forms to submit rebates on items purchased in-store? Have any of you done it successfully? Was this woman on the phone full of crap when she said I couldn't use a printed out rebate form from BB.com?

What should I do about the UPC? At this point I am inclined to send the original UPC along with the capacity label to Western Digital, per the CSR on the phone's instructions, and just see what happens with sending a copy of the UPC for the $20 rebate. I could live with the $20 rebate being shot down if it happens. I guess better safe than sorry for the $100 rebate if you ask me.

All I want to know is if the $20 rebate can accept copies of the UPC then why doesn't it just say that on the form?

BUMP

IMPORTANT INFO on BB rebate

After talking to three different representatives at Western Digital's rebate center, they all told me that they need the ORIGINAL UPC in order to qualify for their rebate.

I called BB Rebate Center again and they said to write "Original UPC Sent for offer BB 28337" on the photocopy of the UPC.

The "WDC Serial Number" barcode is just as other people have said, useless.

Just an FYI.

I just bought one at BB this morning (Dallas area) and then went back this afternoon
for a PM. I had called Microcenter ahead of time and confirmed they were in stock.

First the customer service girl said they couldn't do it because with their rebate
it was the same. Then she said MC was a rebate (I showed her it wasn't). Then
she asked a manager and he said okay if I gave back my rebate forms. I told
her they were at home and she ended up PM it at 110% of the difference, so
the drive will be free AR for me.

Keep trying -- it isn't dead at all BB.

Just a note to you guys, I called the Best Buy Rebate Center and they claimed that if I did a pricematch I would not be eligible for the $20.00 Mail in Rebate. However, I also called the Western Digital number and they said that I am 100% eligible for the $100 mail in rebate and that pricematching doesn't matter one bit to them. So we may only end up with $50.00 on the drive.

Note:
- Sterling, VA Best Buy will not give you the rebate (I argued with 10 minutes for the manager)
- Reston, VA is out of stock but may give you the pricematch / rebate
- Fair Lakes Shopping Center in Fairfax, VA has it in stock but says that they will not pricematch because the rebate makes it cheaper!

I just called Corporate to complain (1-800-849-0444) and they said the rebate form says that it is void if combined with another offer (aka pricematching) ... The funny thing is the website version of the rebate doesnt say anything about being void with another offer. I think BestBuy is just trying to cover their losses here since they're most likely taking a hit on each drive. Additionally, did anyone notice how the rebate form states "Forms with typed-in responses WILL NOT be accepted" ? ... Its almost as if they want you to write it so they can claim they couldn't read your handwriting ... such BS!

Well, I sent in THREE rebates for the drive, and as long as the WD $100 one comes through I'll be a happy man,

Rebate Numbers:

BB 28333 - $20 Rebate via BB.com Rebate Center ONLINE FORM

BB 28287 - $20 Rebate via Best Buy Rebate Form printed with receipt at register

BB 28337 - $100 Rebate via Best Buy Rebate Form printed with receipt at register (BB.com form is same Reb number)

The two $20 rebates are sent to two different addresses in Clalais, ME, so I figured I would try and see if I can get one or both. They can't really get me for fraud because they are two different rebate numbers and addresses.

Would be great if I could get the drive for $9 AR!

Well.. I just checked up on this thread to see what was going on. I haven't sent my rebates in yet, but this is what I'm going to do.

The rebate that requires the "capacity label" is getting the capacity label (minus the UPC) and the rebate that requires the "original UPC" is getting the original UPC. You know.. Isn't it amazing that rebate center CSR's get annoyed when you call them and ask what seems to be obvious questions? If they were more clear in their instructions and didn't make us jump through hoops and then wonder if we are going to get the rebate, we wouldn't even have to call them.

Anyway.. This is what I'm sending in and if there's a problem, I'll get on the horn to the BB rebate center and have the CSR hook me up on a 3-way call (I did this before with the T-giving Visiontek $50 BB MIR). I'll send them a copy of my anything at that point because I will have made copies of everything that I am going to submit.

Here's the big rub and this is what really pisses me off about the rebates. Didn't BB advertise at one time that there were $120 in 2 rebates? Why would they advertise this and have the system spit out 2 rebate forms at the register for the same item if you had to submit the only UPC for both rebates? That's a bunch of cr*p as far as I'm concerned and that will be the very first thing that I will bring up if I have to do that 3-way call in order get one or both of my rebates.

Good luck everyone and let us know if you have any problems with the rebate submissions.

Salvador, SEND THE UPC WITH THE CAPACITY LABEL! That rebate is the WD $100 rebate and I verified with three different WD representatives that they NEED the original UPC as well as the Capacity label because they are the manufacturer. You might not get the $100 rebate if you don't send them the UPC. They told me that Best Buy will need to accept a copy, which BB then told me they would when I called them.

You could try it your way and just bitch out whomever doesn't honor the rebate after the fact, but I would want to play it safe.

Received Western Digital $100 rebate check today and BestBuy $20 few days ago, was worried that they will never come because it was not traceable from WD rebate site.

$30 for a 120GB drive, deal of the year candidate.

I got both rebates, too, and I have to agree Wei2Cool! The only thing in my opinion that compares is the 120GB WD SE drive from dell for $59 or $69 AR but we don't know yet it that is panning out as it should.
