hey logers, dont waste you time trying to contact Best Buy customer service. they suck. they dont care what you have to say, if the store told you something, then that is it. not questions asked. I have had problems with them before, and they dont do anything for you.
I agree somewhat. I had a problem with a BB store last holiday season, so I contacted BB.com through email. I ended up getting someone to call the store manager and he in turn had to call me and apologize for the inconvenience that he put me through, but that's about it. Actually contacting BB corp is probably a better scare tactic to try and get the store manager to do something for you, but I don't think they will really do anything in your favor after the fact.
If you bought the drive from the store and plan to use the rebate forms on bestbuy.com, PLEASE notice:
So.. What does this mean exactly? I did call the BB Rebate Center this evening to ask about what I needed to submit as a receipt for both rebates and when I had the CSR look up the $20 rebate from the reference number, it came up fine. My point is that I'm sure that the register rebate is fine. No telling what is going on with the online rebate. They are probably both fine though.

FWIW.. When I had the CSR look up the $100 rebate under the promotion number that was printed on the register rebate form, it didn't come up in the BB rebate system for some reason. Weird.
Circuit City has the drive for 199.99, if you can't get the Microcenter PM. 50 bucks more... not so hot, but still good.
It's actually quite a bit more than $50 difference because I don't see a CC rebate for this drive. You'd only be getting it for the $149 PM as far as I can see and that's quite a bit more than $29 + tax after rebates.

Okay, so I went to my local BB that?s in the area in which I live, but I?m not gonna to say where that area is because it?s a big secret and I don?t want anyone else to know so that they can also waste their time going to the Madison Hgts, MI store (DOH!). Anyway, there were no drives on the shelf, (big surprise), so I asked the friendly sales droid if they had any WD 120GB drives in stock. He asked me "Are you trying to price match?". I get the feeling that this is not going to go well. I said "Yes". He said that MC is out of stock and he could not sell me one. He also said that WD would not honor the rebate anyway since the final price would be less than $50 after rebate. I asked "Do you have any in stock?" He said that they had one left behind the counter, (could it be that he was saving the last one for himself?). Anyway, I said to myself "FI" and left the Madison Hgts, MI BB store (DDOOOOOHHHH!).

FYI Best Buy in COVINA, CA is SOLD OUT!

Not sure if the PM would have worked because when I got there they said they were sold out early in the day. I'll try City of Industry and Pasadena tomorrow if I get a chance to....Anyone else check LA County Best Buys?

I went to the BB in West LA (pico and sawtelle) and they are out although according to the computer they have 2 in stock
Almost all BB in the area are out except Burbank which apparently has 4 in stock. It seems that they update the system once a day because she said this is the status from last night.

I got in on this deal at the Best Buy in Yorba Linda, CA. Price after PM came to 161.61

The managers were VERY cool about it too. I was very surprised to see them so helpful.

Best Buy in Brea was most helpful. PM'd it with no hassle at all.

Best Buy in Mission Viejo was not helpful. My friend had to argue for half an hour before they honored their store policy.

Hey all you guys from Southern California ( bolido 2000, pens, and riznick ) thanks very much for the information and congrats!!! A few more questions though.

What time of day did you go?

Do you remember the name of the manager who approved it?

And if they try to say no what are good arguments (I am not a good arguer)?

Thanks...Chris

I bought the drive at BB on Sunday at the San Jose CA Blossom Hill store. I used my Amex Gold Business card because at the time I figured I'd go the BVG route. But I was reading where Amex may be onto the rebate offer on this drive so I decided to try the Microcenter PM thing instead. As has been mentioned, going for the PM at some point after the purchase is the way to go. No grabby fingered cashier glomming onto the rebate forms, heck, no easy reminder that there even is a rebate!

So I went in around 8pm and as soon as the girl at the CS station saw the Microcenter flyer she said "another one of these?". Heeehehehe....apparently I was like the 5th person who had been in on her shift today. I immediately felt a lot better about my chances because others had paved the way. She punched it in and scanned the receipt and then started hammering on the enter key on the register...."oh crap, fatal error!" Hmmm....uhh ohh. She tried it again, same result. She went away and came back and asked if I'd purchased it at the very end of the day on Sunday (I hadn't). Dunno what that was all about, but she said that it wouldn't take the PM request, that it said it was invalid. I was getting a bit nervous now. She left again and back came.....the manager! I'm toast. I figure BB has seen so many AT'ers and FW'ers that they've locked the system down tight whenever anyone tries to do a PM on that drive!

The manager asked what I was PM'ing to and I showed her the MC flyer. But she acted like she hadn't seen it before and then her eyes got really big and she said "that's a really low price!". I was all prepared for battle, even had the MC phone number ready. She said how low it was again, but then she punched a bunch of keys on the register and I asked if she was going to be able to get it to go through. She said yeah, she'd use her special code to override. It took a minute although it seemed like ten. She handed me the form to fill out, then ran it through the register and said I'd be getting $125 credited to my Amex! Wooohoooo, that's even got the extra 10% on it!!!! I thanked her a few times and grabbed the receipt and jetted out of there before she could figure out about the rebate. He shoots....he SCORES!!!!!

Count another score in Chicago . Girl behind counter had done several of these already during the day (I got the last drive off the shelf). No muss, no fuss. She didn't even bother to call. I was done in the time it took her to quickly scribble out the price match form and ring me up. I didn't get the extra 10% but the total was $161 out the door for a final of $41. Too bad the tax here is so high

I just went and grabbed mine from the Kenesaw, GA BB on my lunch break. On the way up 75N I stopped at MC and picked up the flyer after calling and verifying that their deal was going through the end of the week (possibly month). Kenesaw store was the only one on the north end of Atlanta that had any in stock. They still had several and I just played it all cool and acted like I didn't know about the rebate, just wanted the PM because I didn't like MC. They were very cool and the young a.a. cashier said he needed to get himself one once he picked up on the deal. I don't think many people have hit that store yet because no one even blinked about it and they still had like 4 on the shelf. So ATL area people, there's your place...

Wow, I went back to the same BB I got mine at yesterday to get another one and this time MC screwed me over! I was at the CSD with ad in hand to pricematch, and the SAME GIRL that PM'ed me yesterday was doing it for me today. She said she had to call MC again today to re-verify they still have them in stock. I said ok. She called, and after waiting OVER 15 MINUTES on hold with MC her shift ended and a guy came and took over the process. He hung up after ANOTHER 10 MINUTES and said "Screw it, I'll just do it anyway." I thought, "Yay!" He rang up the HDD and PM'ed it and all was well, or so I thought. He then proceeded to rip up all the receipts that came out, saying that "Our drive is the same price after rebates." If it weren't for the lazy-asses at MC who are afraid to answer the phone I woulda had the drive and all the receipts for it, too.

Now I am just hoping that I can still get the rebate if I download it from BB's website and photocopy the right-hand side of the yellow receipt he gave me. Here's hoping!

Man, you guys keep talking about the right side of the yellow slip. There is NOTHING on the right side of my yellow slip. The girl just filled in the left side with my name, address and listed the drive, original price, and the price after the PM. It was never printed on by the register. I hope I'm not hosed...

if anyone has been able to get in on this deal in the St. Louis area, let me know. I highly doubt it and would much rather not waste my time if there's no hope. That being said, big ups to da poster of dis deal.

If you got rebate receipts, just send them in with the rebate as your receipt, that's what they're for.

And if not, just send in the right side of the yellow one right? I didn't get rebate receipts with one drive.

I got another question. What's the probability the rebates will go through? Would I have a better chance doing the OfficeMax PM with or without a coupon and sending in that rebate? I would gladly pay the extra $20 price difference AR if I have a better chance of getting the rebate check from OfficeMax. What do you guys think?

Ahh crap. Since that is the ONLY MC in MI, that sux it's OOS. Well, that saves me the trouble of running out to MH to get an ad. Maybe I'll get lucky and try OM since the "droids" there are seemingly more useless than than BB.

I went in to the Citrus Heights (CA) BB and saw that they had 6 in stock. I grabbed one for work (I'm an IS guy) for use w/the corporate acct. and one for me with my own cc and headed to the counter. The girl said 'oh we had someone do this earlier', but then told me that the rebate didn't apply.

logers, I was the guy that did the PM before you at the Citrus Heights store. The girl wasn't the problem, it was definately the MOD that was the deal blocker there. It just seems like the MOD will throw out any excuse to dissuade you from completing the PM. Like many on this board state, if you keep at it, you'll probably get the PM. I usually don't have the patience to wait that long. But, anyway, the MOD made sure I didn't get the rebate forms or receipts, not knowing that I could care less since I was just going to go back to work and print out the forms online.

Anybody know what pieces of the box go where? I see two barcodes on the box:

1) One that says 'WDC Serial Number' with a barcode.

2) One that looks like it's an extension of the capacity label, and says "Model:WD1200BBRTL", "Proof of Purchase", and has a yellow shaded box to the right detailing the drive's specs (8.9ms seek time, 2mb buffer size, ata100)

So which is "original upc from the box" (for the $20 bb rebate), and which is the "capacity label cut from the front of the box" (for the $100 wd rebate)?
