Hot! 160GB Maxtor at Amazon.com $32 after 2 rebates?

Maxtor 160GB at amazon.com $232-$100MIR = $132

It has a 100 MIR, specific to purchases at amazon.com as seen on Amazon web page, rebate valid till 3-29-2003.

It also has an additional $100 MIR, generic to purchase of this hard drive from any maxtor resellers, as seen in rebateshq. maxtor does list Amazon as their resellers, rebate valid till 03-28-2003

These two rebates go to Miami FL, but the departments are different: 03-56056 and 03-55754. Hence it might be a go. If both rebates work it will be HOT deal, i.e. 160G for $32.

$132 for a 160gb drive is pretty good... Too bad it's the 2mb version.

No reproductions of the UPC code will be accepted. Maxtor is not responsible for late, lost, misdirected or postage due mail. If terms and conditions are not met, rebate will not be sent.

Seems like a $100 risk. Good deal for peeps with a single rebate, themal nuclear hot for those who get both rebates back.

This is actually an 8mb drive. The 2mb spec on Amazon's site is a mistake. If you check every other site selling this model they all say 8mb.

On Maxtor's site, they have this model number being the 8 mb cache drive bundled with a ATA controller card. Does this come with a controller card too? Also.. Is this a 1 year warranty drive or a 3 year warranty drive? I'm so mixed up with the current warrantee's on drives.

Maxtor is doing the rebate as far as I know and I've never had a problem with them personally.

Yeah, same here. I guess it's to be expected, seeing the insane amount of rebates they must have received from all the black friday sales.

Actually, $122 after a $10 coupon and free shipping after rebate is really nice for a 160 gb 8 mb cache drive.

I'm thinking of getting the drive and just sending both in with the hopes they'll get filled. I'm bound to get at least one back, right?

Or if you send it both, does it null the other one?

The ONLY rebate I never got:

they claimed I sent it in twice and they denied both. Untrue! But, even with documentation, they held to their story that I sent in "my documentation" twice and that wasn't kosher. I never could convince them it was THEIR mistake. I was PISSED.

Best Buy ended up sending me the rebate money (to shut me up) even though it was a manufacturer's rebate. Otherwise, I would have pushed further. I GET my rebates, darnit.

no that i have never actually done, i have discovered yes it is, but that would only be a fallout if the second 100$ rebate fell through and i had to spend 132 on it cuz i cant really afford that, now 25 i can but not 132

and this might turn out better than my 120gb deal from best buy!! 37 dollars after tax there!

read the purchase line on the rebate i linked to, that is for a retail drive and that is the Amazon rebae so the drive should be retail when purchased from amazon
