Purchased one in Winchester, KY tonight. $398.xx + tax. Also known to be in London, KY and I would guess anywhere in Central Kentucky (including Lexington). Will let you know the results. Silver frame on the monitor. Looks nice!

So what kind of input does it take? both VGA and DVI?

As far as JohnGer is concerned, for a nubee he started into this thread with good constructive information - why don't you save some bandwidth and leave him alone?

Leave him alone? Are you serious? Do me a favor and read JohnGer's 2nd post in this thread, then tell me he doesn't deserve some public flogging. The crap he spit-forth called for a response, and as you can see from the myriad of people lashing, I'm certainly not alone in calling him to the mat.

And not that it matters, but I've been a regular reader of this board for quite a long time -- years (plural) before my join-date.

And just to keep this on topic -- I will be in 2, count'em TWO -- Wal-Marts later this evening. I'll report back here with my findings.

VGA only...no DVI!

A few observations:

The monitor is very bright....even though the specs would indicate otherwise. It is crisp, but the Autotune feature doesn't work as well as adjusting the phase yourself (IMO).

General PC use (surfing, wordprocessing, etc) is very good.

Before hooking up the monitor, lower your refresh to 60Hz or you'll get an "Out of Range" indication. It only syncs from 48 to 62 Hz.

The monitor does a good job at running 1024 x 768 games with a little ghosting (remember, I have a Hitachi HML174B with 16ms time....so I may be biased! ). The monitor doesn't play games well at 800 x 600. Very blurry even with Autotune. Since I don't have a good enough video card in this PC (Radeon 7200), I can't run fast enough at 1280 x 1024 to tell (UT2K3).

The unit has an external "brick" power supply. I imagine that this could help keep heat down in the unit itself as it's being transformed externally.

The menu buttons are sorta stylish (looks like a sine wave going across them end to end)

The menu's are basic...not as many as other monitors, but easy to get around and use (IMO).

The screen has a slight "tilt" of about 1 to 2 degrees vs the frame. Only noticable if you're really looking for something to find wrong with it...otherwise, not noticable.

That's all for now.....

My UPC's show 7 93111 80000 2
The Walmart SKU is - 564492
The vendor stock # is - 1104-03-9902

On a sticker is shows SPECBYWK47

This is a "GO Shipment" that somebody mentioned in an earlier reply.

Hope this helps.

This is a one time deal and it is a week 47 feature supposedly. Most stores should be getting a number of these in stock. They will not be on normal side counter shelves. Tell the stores when calling to check the backroom because it's a feature.

Whoot, I get 10% so I may have to check into this.

LOL. You replaced a Trinitron monitor with this LCD? There is no way I'd replace my Sony Trinitron G410R ($400) with any current LCD monitor. Response time even on the most expensive LCD is just not fast enough for fast video and games. Plus, LCD has only the native resolution, where other lower resolutions just don't look right.

Um, I dunno who elected you the voice of the forums, but I find you equally annoying
Public flogging? Who are you? Judge DREDD??? (that movie sucked too btw).

Anyways, I think there's a lot of talk coming out of people's pooholes in this thread, its a hot deal, not an LCD vs CRT debate; there's plenty of those in the appropriate hardware forums. I KNOW I'm a hardcore gamer, and I'm using an LCD; My G420 has served me well, but its been retired to my "second" system. Simply comes down to personal preferences.

This is a good deal, I'm gonna let my bro and bro-in-law know about it; they should be quite pleased as they couldn't stop drooling all over my 1900FP when they saw it.

Man you are lucky, checked all of the stores in town, the first guy kept trying to sell me RAM, the others were at least closer with trying to sell me CRT's, no 18" LCD's or anything other than KDS, but man great deal to all who got in!!

Where in northern Ohio? Just wondering what Walmart you went to.

Toledo, Findley, Bowling Green.

Does anyone have an extra one they can ship me?

RE:"Native Resolution: 1280x1024(SXGA)?
Isn't that kinda low for an 18" display?"

Nah, that's about right for a LCD of that size.

LCDs just don't have the resolution of a CRT yet.

Only good thing about an LCD is the desk space. Radiation isn't really a factor after 18" away and all the CRTs now-a-days are shielded.

CRTs have no ghosting, better color, more brightness, better color depth.
For gaming that's plus...for graphic arts it's more of a must.

Mac

PS. On the other hand, $398 for a 18" LCD is a very good price. That said. Expect prices to drop on other brands too.
