Anyone that works there have a quick and (hopefully painless) way of determining if a store carries these?

Tell the associate the walmart item number and they can put it in their telzon and it will come up for them.

Based on what BalAtWork posted, does anyone know the stats on this LCD's color transition time? Might be found in the lcd's manual...

Cheers!

Actually the transition time for the color changes in pixels are not a listed spec on any LCD, only the white to black (30ms in this case).

Check out the thread in General Harware. It is possible to have a higher acces time on a particular LCD but lower ghosting.

So who actually bought this LCD and how is it? How bright is it, how does it do in gaming and DVD playback?

Sweet deal if the picture is nice. At Gateway we sell our 18" LCD's for 699. They are digital though, but then again, I've tried both analog and digital on the same monitor, and have never been able to tell any difference what so ever. Hope you guys find them in your area!

Yeah I have not figured that one out either - no real difference between the modes even on a 20" Dell...

After calling around to three states, I decided to go back to the Troy, MI Walmart and talk to the department manager. I spent about 30 minutes with him and he assured me that if Walmart does carry such an animal, he could not get me one, not even if I found one in an out-of-state store. He could not find any reference to the UPC or SKU, and believe me, I made him look. Someone else said they bought one in Kalamazoo. After checking on the Walmart website, I found there is no Walmart directly in Kalamazoo, so I tried a couple of the nearby stores-no luck. The closest Walmart Super-Store is in Howell which is over 50 miles from me, but what the heck. I asked the guy in electronics if they had one and he said the only "modulars" they carried were KDS. I asked him to check for it by SKU anyway. He came back to the phone a few minutes later and BINGO! He said they must have put them out last night. Now for my impressions. For the money, you can't beat this thing...but, my old Samsung 19" CRT still blows this one away. I haven't played with the settings very much yet, so that assessment may change. But I?ve been looking for a good price on an LCD this size, and am supper happy that I was able to finely find one, it?s a keeper. Thanks much to the original poster, great bargain to start the new year.

I was able to connect with a helpful person at the Gilroy, California store who was able to find the monitor in the system with the UPC code, the SKU didn't work. Her search within a 100 mile radius of the Northern California Bay Area yielded no monitors in stock anywhere. It doesn't look like the product has hit the West Coast yet. Maybe those Walmart 18 wheeler trucks chock full of 18" LCD monitors are crossing the Rockies this very moment!

She suggested to call the 1-800-Wal-Mart # and talk with the customer service rep. I did so and got there was no product in my area, the rep said someone will be assigned to track down the product and give me a call back within 2-3 days on availability locally and with the option of them shipping it out to the nearest Wal Mart to me for pickup. Crossing fingers...

Just a suggestion. I don't know if this is true or not, but maybe it's only the super-stores that carry this item. None of the regular stores had one, I had to call a SS.

I went ahead and did this route.

Not available at the couple N. Houston stores I checked either. One sales assoc. said week 47 features usually show up around the end of the month.

Here is an interesting observation I made while hooking up my LCD panel. If you turn on the aquarium screen saver, you can see the difference in the screen refresh rates. I have my 17 inch KDS Flat Screen CRT right next to the Microtek C893 18 inch LCD. You can see the hesitation in the fish and bubbles on the LCD panel. On my KDS 17 inch, their is no hesitation. The KDS is attatched to the ATI 8500DV 64 meg video card and the Microtek is attatched to the ATI 9500 Pro 128 meg.

Picked two of these up at the Howell, MI Super Wally. New screens for work and home. Look great so far. Haven't done any tweaking and I don't play games on the PC so these will work out great. Thanks to those who helped bringing this deal out, and TheDon who left some on the shelf so another guy could get a deal too.

About 7-9 left on the shelf at this location as of 8pm Tuesday night.

Hee-hee, glad they had some in MI. I'm not one to clean-out inventory for profit. I feel the purpose of forums like these is to help one-another find deals, not buy the whole city out then sell back to the people who make places like this nice if the first place. I just bought the one I needed. I've never been in a Walmart Super-Store, that sucker was big! BTW, there was a post a few days ago on FW about some wristwatch FRS/GMRS radios. Review The Howell, MI store had them for $29.82. I picked one up just for the geek factor. Works good in the house but I haven't tired it outside yet, it's 15 degrees out there! Thanks again for the monitor deal, I'm a happy camper.

Yea, I can adapt... it be perfect if it had DVI but hell $400 is cheap even though my total was $1272 for three with tax. the lady checking my reciept at the exit door thought I was crazy she said "a lil expensive for the monitors this morning huh?" my reply was "no, not really" I smiled and pushed my $1272 worth of LCD goodness out the door @ 12:30 in the morning

I tried Renton, WA today - no sign of them. I talked to the bloke working there, asking about the 18" Microtek LCD monitors that were the week 47 feature. He said they only got 3, but they sold out. I asked when; he said Monday or Tuesday of *last* week. He seemed to know what he was talking about, but (perhaps wishfully), I think he was talking out his arse.

Technogeek,

Did the customer service person say they would call you back with any updates for this monitor in Northern California?
