1280 x 1024 at up to 100Hz is very impressive, higher than the flat KDS and Samsungs. 1600 x 1200 at up to 85Hz and 1920 x 1440 at up to 70Hz.

Good deal. Thanks.

CNET User Opinions - only place I could find somebody talking about this product.

Took a look at the couple Compaq P1100's (21" Trinitron) they have at my workplace here and I must say, they are definitely NICE - really beatiful with well rounded features and pretty good visual quality.

Wow ... shipping for $3.20 is just incredible - hoping that's what they really charge you after you have put in your billing information.

Wonder what's up with this monitor? The prices seem to be all over the board.

If anyone finds any good reviews on it, please post it.

TIA,

Sal

outpost is now very vague on it's shipping.... it says $3.20 at checkout, but i'm sure it's more than that. Read this and see if yu can make sense of it. But I am afraid it may make the deal colder.

We offer Ground Service starting at $3.20, 2nd Day Air beginning at only $3.95, and Overnight Delivery via Airborne Express starting at just $5.95 within the 48 contiguous states, depending on weight. Your shopping cart shows the shipping charge for domestic 2nd Day Service. An option for Ground or Overnight Delivery is also available at checkout.

It seems to be just as good, if not a better deal than the Dell Trinitron and the shipping can't be more than the difference of $310 and around $365. At least I hope it wouldn't be.

This monitor looks very similar to the Dell Trinitron and the G400 Sony. Wouldn't the picture quality be about the same between these two OE's and possibly the Sony? I wonder if the case is as large and heavy as the Dell monitor. I can't seem to find any specs on the case.

It specs out almost exactly the same as the G400.
Slightly higher top res, maybe Compaq tweaked the electronics.
According to Compaq, it comes with a 3 year next business day replacement warranty.

Mine came to $340 with shipping, don't know why their site says starts at $3.20.
I guess I'll know the quality soon enough.

Compaq has GREAT customer support. Their end user replacement program is the bomb. Basically, if you monitor has a problem, they'll ship you a new one, and you then return the old one to them in the same box. And they pay for shipping both ways. This program lasts the full 3 years of the warranty too!

to add to aaronp, you can also take it into any RadioShack and they will ship it of to a Compaq certified repair center (free). No receipt needed, Compaq can tell from the serial # if it's within warranty.

PCWorld March 2000 19" Monitor Top
2. Dell P991
6. Sony G400
10. Compaq P900

These 3 have the same FD Trinitron and are very similar spec-wise.

I've seen Dell P991 deal here. (~$360? at dell, %20 off, free s&h)
I have one at work (Dell) and sure it is a great monitor, if not the greatest.
Very crispy and clear at 1600x1200. Almost like G400.

At the bottom of the monitor description page it says "Requirements : PC" -- is there any reason why a standard monitor wouldn't work on a Macintosh G3 with the same 15-pin connection as PC's?

Great find btw!

damn ... not sure which one to get ..
the dell or the compaq ?

most of the people have good things to say about the dell ...
not much info on the compaq ...

both seem to be variations of the g400 ...

anyone got any suggestions on which choice to make ?

Well, according the Compaq this monitor has dual video inputs unlike the Dell P991 which only has 1 video input(although the 21" Dell P1110 does have 2 inputs). The Sony G400 also has dual video inputs. The monitor I use a black IBM P96(also a 19" FD Trinitron monitor) also has dual video inputs.

I used this feature a lot when I still had my tower computer, so I could keep it hooked up when I wanted to connect my laptop and use the P96 with that.

In the online manual, it lists that it is Mac compatible "with adapter (not provided)." So it definitely works on Macs (what resolutions though???) either w/ or w/o an adapter but given all the changes Apple has made to its video ports in the last few years, I have no idea if you would need the adapter for your G3. You could call Compaq to ask, I guess, although that just seems weird ("hi, compaq? i have a mac question for you.&quot. . . .

Not as good as a Sony GPD-400, as it doesn't have a built-in vga splitter. They're the same price, so I'd go with the one with the extra semi-fluff feature myself . Although, this one doesn't require you to be on the phone 5-10 minutes to do a pricematch, either .

Well,

Finally got it.
This monitor is very nice.
extremely uniform color.

Looks just slightly below the Viewsonic PF815 I use at work. The pf815 is a 22" and that makes a difference.
1600x1200 is a little small on a 19", but very sharp.

Equivalent to the Sony G400's and Dell P991s.

VERY happy with this for $340 delivered with 3 year advanced replacement or on-site service.
