8MB/sec. I checked both the 512MB and 1GB versions using HDtach and results were the same. 8MB/sec on USB 2.0. If I had a ghetto template even, I'd make a review

Bleah, I see NewEgg has the 512MB I-Stick for $87... wonder if they pulled the 1GB one because of a price mistake? Congrats to those that got in on the deal.

Probably not. I've seen that repackaged one hanging around for a good while. The ones we are ordering come in a square blister pack with a blue label, as opposed to the $87 one that looks like a rectangular blister pack with black label. They probably ran out and pulled it off. Or they decided to remove the item and jack the price up, who knows.

huh? PQI I-Stick 2.0 512MB USB 2.0 ...e Model BD01-5123-0121 = $52 shipped at newegg

EDIT: ah, here's what you were looking at: PQI I-Stick 2.0 512MB USB Flash Drive Model BD0512M = $87.99 shipped at newegg

The first one, the $52 is the 512mb little brother of the 1gb model that was offered ~$90 in this thread. Not sure about the $87 one, it looks different than the 1gb we all bought.

Dayum, you're right! Not even a placeholder indicating that they're out of stock of that particular product (the 1GB flash drive)...it was there earlier this morning--I wonder what gives????

Oops. PQi lists it as 7MB/sec write speed and I HDtached it but with a non-commercial version so I only see the read speed which was indeed 8MB/sec. I'm in the process of getting a journalist copy so I'll update on things when/if that happens. And boy does my review look ghetto!

Yes. I'm not sure if it is required, but the instructions say in XP, to get a floppy, format and make it bootable, then copy the files to a specific directory in the root of your C:\, and make it bootable through the supplied software. I haven't tried to boot off mine yet.

Word to the wise, making it bootable through the software requires a format of your pen drive.

Yes, it's bootable. You can either use their program to make it bootable or do it yourself as you would most USB drives through the BIOS, FDISK and FORMAT /S.

I had the older PQI 128MB purple USB 1.1 I-Stick and noticed that this 1GB drive's access light is very dim and small (2mm square). I can barely see it in an office environment while the older I-Stick was wonderfully bright. The entire lit area is unmistakable and the brightest area is 4mm square. I also noticed that this drive gets warm, but it's probably because of it's diminutive size and dense capacity.

Anyone else noticed these things or is mine jacked up?

Other than that, this is a great drive and the USB 1.1 are very durable. I accidentally bent mine, kept it in my wallet, which gets smashed and tossed for over a year and recently tested defect free using Spinrite and it's still kickin. Hope this USB 2, 1GB fares as well, but with a 3 year warranty, why worry?

Don't sweat it I'd say. Both 512MB and 1GB versions I have of the USB 2.0 versions get warm and have a really dim light. I was trying to catch a picture of it in bad light and I couldn't even see the blinking on my camera display. Decided to not even mention the light

Thanks! Would need a small USB 2.0 reader though.
