Hot!?! 256MB PC800 for $67

Finally decided to register and post since I have been loving this forum for so long. Not sure if this is a HOT deal or not, but I was very happy with it.
Googlegear is selling 256meg Samsung PC800 RDRam for $67 each (these are OEM). I was trying to upgrade the memory for my Dell Dimension, but the Dell site was listing these for $155+ each, so I was definitely happy to go with Gogglegear instead (in case you don't know, Dell uses Samsung memory in a lot of their systems). And 2nd day air shipping was .50 cents. Gotta love places that don't rob you on the shipping.

Depends on your system. Some are dual channel while others are single channel.

For my system, I had 2 sticks of 128 meg (stock Dell/Samsung) and bought 2 of these 256 meg Samsung ones. Worked great! Now I think I should be good with 768 megs ....nahhhh

As far as I know, EVERY single P4 system requires dual-channel for RAMBUS, there are some i820 chipsets (that are P-III), that can use RAMBUS in single channel, but no P4 systems. YMMV.

And yes, this is a pretty good deal, more so because its from a well known store, not just some pricewatch "internet" store with low prices and bad service.

If you get 32bit RDRAM you don't have to use them in pairs. Most are 16bit, however.

will these work on a 533 Frontsidebus system? I ordered some kington pc800 fromtechdepot for $89 a couple months ago and they weren't compatible with my 8200. I needed pc800 @ 533fsb which is actually cheaper than 400fsb.

There's NO WAY i'd team a high end p4 with plain DDR....not until DDR II is out, anyways. So people looking for pure power can't go wrong with a p4 3ghz + pc1066 RDRAM (if you have the money )

No it won't. if you have a system with a FSB of 533mhz you need RAM that runs at that speed. For that you need PC1066 not PC800 which runs at 400mhz.
