This is targeted to the regional area that is serviced by SNET in Connecticut, but there current DSL promotion (which I just signed up for) is for $30 dollars a month (384k-1.5) price locked for one year! Free install, modem, software, AND, you can cancel out after the first month if you want..no "lock in" features. Pretty slammin deal if you ask me.

First post by the way

On EDIT- The rep I talked to yesterday said that the deal has NOT been posted yet on the net. I heard this through word of mouth from a friend getting a phone line installed in a new house, and they offered him the same dsl offer I just posted. It didn't ring true to me (I was waiting for the "After 3 months, price will resume at $45 a month), but I did call "811" in Connecticut, and confirmed everything I posted. The rep did say that the advertising on this special promotion will kick off soon as that SNET wants people to buy into the dsl craze. So unfortunately, no link to post.

SBC's doing this in a lot of areas (I got it too in NW Ohio.) You have to ask for it when ordering, and you have to be a good customer (no late phone bills).

My parents just moved into an apartment complex where the managers have an exclusive contract with SBC and won't let anyone use any other TV or high speed internet service. I couldn't believe this, as SBC cable and internet service are a lot more expensive than competition.

Please post ANY numbers and additional info that can be used to try to get this deal in Kansas. What 800 number did you call, what zip codes are involved and most importantly (since edited post confuses things a bit) your deal states that SBC is offering $30 a month for (384k-1.5) price locked for one year in the Northeast United States. True?

My apartment in Chicago also has such a contract with SBC Ameritech, which does not allow other local company to operate. So they (i.e. AT&T) have to go the 'Chicago way'. They physically cut each other's lines to put their own through. I lived in the South, never heard of such touch competition before, and was quite amazed.

well i have a pac bell up in SF, and i would have to say the service is actually pretty good, very few outages and they're only for a little while, other than that, really consistent service.

:disgust:Aaaah... Forrest fire blazes 'cause thredstarter left his camp fire and walked away.

One of the numbers is 1-888-992-8576, but it's $29.95 first 6 months, then $49.95, free modem, free setup, one year contract, no first month free, no coupons or anything else.

It's a go in Missouri as well. But hey, no offense, thanks to jeeplaw we found out about all of this. It averages to $39.95 a month and if you're limited to SBC and can't get a no-contract deal, it's better than $49.99 they had before.

Ok, threadstarter is back....sorry if I wasn't here today to answer the questions..but I posted it this morning before trial..some of us have to work

I don't know if this is for the whole northeast, it may be a regional deal, hence me being in CT. In CT we dial 811 to contact SBC SNET for service. After getting though to their service plan reps, they told me what I told you. 1 year, 30 bux a month, get out any month if you want to. Free install, modem, software. Pipeline=384k-1.5.

Hey jeeplaw thanks for hooking us up, I called your CT number and it's 49.95 after the first 6mo. Are you 100% the 30$ deal is not for first 6mo only? Give us more info on who where how you found out it's $30 all year long.
KingUltra, 1-888-992-8576 didn't work for you, (it was posted just two posts up from yours).
Jeeplaw, all reps are saying, even in your area, it's for first 6mo only, so please try to give us something to call them back with.

I signed up for a similar deal here in Southern California. Except it wasnt nearly as good, it was $30 for first 3 months, and $45 each month thereafter, with NO CONTRACT TO SIGN; this means you can cancel at any time. I was very pleased with the service from SBC...it is the best internet connection I have ever had...and I have had a college campus connection, and a cable modem. The DSL connection I got was blazing hot....i would download at speeds in excess of 200kbps sometimes, and most ping rates I got to different gaming servers AVERAGED at under 40ms. I only had 2 gripes....one was that you had to manually connect each time you turned your computer on, and the other is that the connection seemed to break out about 30 seconds for every 5 minutes connected. Fortunately this only happened when the connection was innactive...meaning if I was downloading something or already connected to a server, there was never a connection break, no matter how long the connection lasted for, and the problem might have been with my computer (it only happened when using a web browser, like IE). The breaks happened when I was surfing the web, sometimes when I typed a URL it would not connect, and I had to try 20-30 seconds later. As major as that problem seems, it only bothered my web surfing and the speed and bandwith of the service more than outdid this problem. Right now I am using cable again, because that is what was availlable at this apartment when I moved in....but I am really thinking of giving SBC a call again for their DSL.

FYI Verizon DLS in the Arlington VA area has a $29.99 deal too. Its not a limited time thing, it is just a stripped down version of their standard plan. I forget what it's called, but if you're in the area you could certainly call and talk the salespeople into it. Its something like 4x dial-up, which is fine with me.

1. Which specific 800 number did you call. This is very important since 1-888-992-8576 reps say price jumps to 49.95 after 6 months and 1-800-408-8282 number listed on their web site takes you to dial up SBC service where they say "number listed on the web site is wrong, we'll transfer you."
2. This wouldn't be one of those "slightly faster than dial-up DSL" deals like cameronj described they have in Virginia, but real high speed internet, right?

1. In-state all we do is dial "811", so I'm not sure what the other number is to connect to them
2. I was told 384-1.5 downstream depending on where I'm located

I will try to call on Monday when their office is open to verify any other numbers that can be called.
