Mine was cancelled also.

It kinda makes you wonder about these companies thats seem to post very good deals on their websites and list the item as "in stock" only to not have any available. Perhaps it isn't an accident. Perhaps it's a ploy to attract people to their websites in hopes they will purchase additional items.

Come on guys, give it a rest. Unfortunately we got a link that sent us directly to a product in their clearance section. If we had gone through their clearance section the normal way we would have seen this:

"Products in our Clearance Store are either returned items or have been in our inventory for over 90 days. These products are generally priced 30% to 50% below our cost. Because these products are being sold at such spectacular savings and their quantities are extremely limited, you must act fast! AccessMicro.Com will try our best to update the inventory status of these items; however, due to their high demand, we cannot guarantee their availability. All clearance item products are sold at a first come first save basis. To check for more clearance products and take advantage of this offer..."

Many online computer parts retailers have clearance sections for returns, open box, overstocks, etc. I ordered this drive also but I knew the risk because I checked out the site (BTW - I didn't get one). It's true they probably should have said they only had 10-20 of these drives and they were customer returns but everyone should not have gone crazy and placed 1475 orders.

Ordered mine Wednesday night at 11 pm. An hour later got an email with confirmation order. Then the next morning got another email again confirming the order (for 1) and advised that a tracking number would sent when it shipped. Then this afternoon (Friday) got the email that the order was cancelled since it was of limited quantity. This of course did not stop accessmicro from taking my credit card info Wednesday night. Next step is to go to resellerratings.com and tell the whole story about this SCAM from accessmicro. Are there any other rating sites to put the word out on accessmicro?. Thanks

Why cry over this deal. I know 30 gig is a lot of space. But if u can settle for 20gig I run to staples and pick up the maxtor. They have the 20gig on sale for 99.99. Add a pack of pencils to get it over a $100 and apply the email coupon $25 off that they send out. This brings it down to $75 plus tax. I got mines for $83 bux. Btw you'll also get the free 32 meg pc100 memory. I know 32 meg is not much but hey its free.

Hey nagibbs,

Ypu can rate them at Bizrate I think and Pricegrabber uses someone called Gomez for seller ratings. Might want to check with the site. I'm pretty sure this thread will be locked really soon to. :Q

Well, that may be a good deal for some people, but that won't work for me because I have a Fasttrak raid card and maxtors aren't good for raid. They have performance issues in raid 0. Anyway, after hearing that these were returned drives and not being sure about the warranty on them, I'm not too dissappointed about the order being cancelled. I'm kinda weary about a drive that has already been shipped to somebody and handled by them then returned. Also, i wonder how that would have affected the warranty if there was one on these drives. It is true that some of these drives aren't warrantied by IBM. I think in order to be sure if they are warrantied you have to check the serial number of the drive with IBM.

Anyway, I still say that this is not good business practice. I checked their website earlier today and the drive was still listed at that time. Also, I noticed that on other items they had the quantity available listed. Yet they did not for this drive. Anyway, I do feel that some of us should post some comments about this at www.resellersrating.com and other similar sites. At least that way perhaps future buyers will be warned that what they order may not be available. Also, it seems to me that this thing of posting deals on items you don't have seems to happen a bit too often.

I talked to a guy at AM... he said they only had ONE drive. They knew when they posted it..why didn't the site say "only one available" ?!?!?! It's dirty even if it was a mistake. They should offer somethingto keep the peace. Not that I reaaly care, I knew it was too good o be true

Perhaps there will be some good deals from reputable online stores on these drives in the future. This line of drives will probably be replaced soon by the new 60GXP line of drives that will feature a density of 20Gb per platter as opposed to 15Gb per platter for these. This will mean the 60GXPs will be faster and therefore the prefered drive. This should happen soon. Perhaps at that time there will be some good deals on the remaining 75GXPs.

That's one of the reasons I thought this deal might be legit. I thought perhaps they were clearing out their stock of 75GXPs to make room for the new 60GXPs.

If you want to complain to accessmicro, here is the big cheese to contact:

Alex Chen, Vice President of Storefront Operations - alex.chen@mcglen.com
Mr. Chen joined the Company in April 1999 to manage the day to day operation of the company's storefront exchanges including marketing programs, merchandising, P&L, and advertising. He is also responsible for business development and alliance program activities, and is responsible for maintaining the customer satisfaction level. Prior to joining the Company, Chen was the founder, President and CEO of AccessMicro, where he was selected by Entrepreneur Magazine as one of the ?Top 100 Entrepreneurs? in 1998. Under Alex?s direction, AccessMicro grew to an annual revenue base of nearly $4.5 million just two years after its inception.

This information came from mcglen's web page at http://www.mcglen.net/about%20mig/about%20mig.html
