Hot 5.1 Speaker deal?

This is my first post:

While looking for a decent and cheap 5.1 setup, I came across this site: LINK

It seems to be a pretty good setup from some of the reviews I read and includes a decoder box. This price ($129) is at least $60 less than any other website online. What do u guys think about it? Im probably gonna order these within the next day or two unless u guys can find something wrong with them.

I remember a few month ago there is a thread about getting Z560 for $120 or something. I guess Z560 is a better deal for that price.

The z560's are nice but i'm looking for a 5.1 setup. Does anyone own these who can tell me if they are worth getting for 129 or should i go for the creative inspire 5.1 setup or some altec lansing stuff.

I'm living at FAR. They limited the whole bandwith for the entire UIUC network to 23mbps at the beginning of the year, which can't possibly support 40,000 students. Then, after getting thousands of e-mails from students, they finally bumped it up to 53 mbps for the entire campus, which is somewhat tolerable, but still less than half of last year's 119 mbps.

Why are you still living in FAR? As the name implies, it's far as hell from everything... except the cows. I remember running by there last year, almost gagged. What's your avg dl speed now? I'm getting 80k on DSL, I know, I know, it sucks compared to the meg per sec I got last year in ISR, but it's just enough for CS.

It's my first year here and i had a few other friends who were staying here at FAR...I d/l anywhere from 10kb/s(even when im not rate limited) to 1mb/s.

Did you know you can defeat the rate limiting by getting multiple network cards or changing your MAC address on your comp. Anyways, I better kill this conversation before the Mods kick my ass. =)

Been thinking about that, but how do you bridge your two connections? I set up two network cards to different ethernet wall jacks, XP would only use one connection... Shotgunned 10Mbs transfers... 1.5MB/s with a download manager.

MidiLand is suppose to make some good systems, if I just didn't pick up some Creative 5.1s I might get these.

At least the public dorms never had download limits(I heard rumor that there is a 750meg/day limit now.) Last year at IT I had 250meg/day limit. I have the same limit this year, as the housing I live in also uses McCleod/Flexabit. It's horrible. Hard to make use of all the HDs I have bought because of this forum.

stay away from the inspires they are just rebadges of the DTT Series on the high end and just plain crap on the low end i would try to get a MidiLand or you can go Cambridge Megaworks 510D which is very good also though it might be out of your budget $275

Those 'generic' speaker systems are at all of the computer shows dirt cheap... for a reason. Most are ok at really low volumes but sound like crap at higer volumes.

Stand corrected Sir,
These Midilands rock. I have the previous version w/o the 5.1 decoding unit and they give out positively crystal clear sound at any volume, although I've never maxed it out, it was getting too loud. I'd wager that overall sound quality exceeds Z560's.
At this price they are a virtual steal.

I meant getting over the dl limit by dling on one card, then when that card goes over the limit and they slow down your connection on the next hour, switch the cable to the next card. That way you can double, triple... your bandwidth limit...

Hi guys....I go to U of I too! I'm at Bromley now, and although the 250 MB/day download limit sucks, the speeds sure dont. I have no problem getting 500+ KB/s at all times, and I have a feeling that even the 500 is limited by the server and not me. I've been considering upgrading my account to 1 GB/day for $500 a year....hmmm....can also get 500 MB/day for $190 and 750 MB/day for $370. The worst part is you can only upgrade once...arg, decisions decisions
